Below I highlight the top five players on the All Iowa Attack squad that I saw from their evening game. With the live event in Ames not beginning until tomorrow I was able to catch the game on Baller TV. All Iowa Attack won the game 90-76.
Kayba Laube – 5’9 – SG/PG – Marion
Laube came off the bench in this one and really impressed me. She kind of just did what she always does when I see her. She’s steady with the ball, shoots the ball from the perimeter exceptionally well, and gets her teammates involved while being a leader. I love watching her play and you can count on her to provide something every time on the floor. Laube plays her role really well on this team and is one of those players who’s going to go on and have a great career in college. Committed to Northern Iowa.
Maya McDermott – 5’5 – PG – Johnston
Like Laube, McDerrmott is committed to Northern Iowa and are going to be running mates for four years. This was the first time that I saw them play extended minutes together and I think they’ll excel at the next level together. McDermott is more of a pure lead guard but she can really score it too. Love her aggressiveness and willingness to defend as well as her decision making on the offensive side of the ball. She’s a leader and a great teammate which makes her even more appealing. She’s someone that plays bigger than her frame. Committed to Northern Iowa.
Grace Larkins – 5’10 – W – Southeast Polk
Larkins is the top sophomore in the class and she continually shows why with her play. She turns the corner really well for a wing of her size and she really has the ability to shoot it as well. In the evening game I thought she played a really complete game. She shot it pretty well and showcased her lateral quickness and ability to play defense. Really enjoyed seeing her compete as she has such a high motor. She’s going to be a hot commodity over the next few years.
Maggie Phipps – 5’10 – SG/W – North Polk
Phipps played pretty well in the evening game as she’s a player who you can’t ever question the motor of. She’s always moving and while her shot might not be falling she still shows the ability to get things done. She’s aggressive on defense and makes good decisions on the offensive end. She is one of the two committed sophomores in the state right now. Committed to Drake.
Caitlin Clark – 5’11 – PG – Dowling Catholic
Clark once again did it all for her team. Definitely see her becoming more comfortable in a more of a distributing role, but she also hasn’t met a shot she doesn’t like. Frankly, I don’t think there’s such a thing as a bad shot when she’s shooting it. She’s one of the more talented players in the 2020 class and she’s playing the best basketball of her life right now. A player that college coaches are going to be flocking to watch as she narrows down her options over the next couple of months into her senior year.
