Two major events for all levels of college ball except for the division one, Border War and Hoop It Up showcase events. There were many match ups from teams with girls out of Oklahoma City, Edmond, Norman, Tulsa, and Muskogee against talent from bordering states such as Arkansas, Missouri and Texas! A slew of girls playing in one weekend, unfortunately all players are not able to be seen, I spent majority of my time at the new Titan Sports and Performance Center located in Tulsa at Hoop It Up Showcase hosted by OK Round Ball and Oklahoma PWP.
Many exciting games for girl’s basketball in Oklahoma, the most notable was a featured game between the Arkansas Banshees 17U UAA versus the Oklahoma Swarm BlueStar 17U. Both teams include some top players in Oklahoma from all around the state, with familiar faces from some of your most competitive girls high school programs in Oklahoma. There were some takeaways from the game and performances from some players out of Oklahoma. Featuring crafty players and those that rarely get trapped in a press break, Top Offensive performers from the game.
Most Crafty Players:
Crafty players are often the ones to do a move in order to get to the goal or make a pass. I also include craftiness in how a player decides to finish the ball. These players features some nice moves advancing up the court and good decision making on finishes. It is a lot of fun to watch how a player executes their purpose with the ball with fundamentals of using the left and right hand in order to create options.
#4 Jersey Wolfenbarger, Sophomore, 6’3, Combo Guard, Northside HS, AR Banshees 17U UAA
I love the way she gets to the basket. She executed moves based off of how the defense played her. I especially loved seeing her execute between the legs, behind the back, hesitation, etc. as she advanced towards the basket from a half court set. Once at the basket, finishing from the up and under or the finger roll.
#12 Brionna Scott, Junior, 5’10, Guard, Deer Creek HS, OK Swarm BlueStar 17U
Spent a large part of the game driving to the basket, once opposed by the defender, used different types of moves each time to be able to create an open shot. Moved swiftly in transition and finishes with a crafty
move, Using both hands to finish the ball.
Top Press Breakers:
Advancing up the court is an effortless task for these players. Rarely trapped in a press, the ball-handling and dribble ability of a press breaker player is a large reason to their success of bringing up the ball. They push and play with the proper acceleration, but the gas is always on go. Point Guard, Guard or whatever position one may label, these ladies are the first players who you want to touch the ball off of the rebound, because their decision making is usually on point 9 times out of 10.
#2 Rylee Langerman, Junior, 5’10, Guard, Christian Heritage Academy, OK Swarm BlueStar 17U
Majority of the time Langerman had the ball in her hands, she pushed the ball. Getting to the basketball with ease most times but when stopped, she executed the baby jumper well. I like how Rylee gets in the right spot in order to push the ball in transition as well handling the ball from multiple levels on the court.
Wyvette Mayberry, Junior, 5’10, Guard, Booker T. Washington, AR Banshees 17U UAA
Any rebound she grabbed, she darted out with quickness and speed. Nimble to get through spaces quickly and often end at the goal for a layup. Her change of speed was executed well in transition which also helped with her ability of getting to the basket from transition.
