I will be dividing players up into “upperclass” and “underclass” and breaking them down by guards, wings, forwards. This will help me hit on more players in a different type of categorization rather than “best shooters”, “best defenders”, etc. The reason I am doing this is because there were so many players who showcased a complete game. This also allows me to hit different states effectively. To start, here are the top underclass posts (performance-wise) that played this weekend.
Grace Boffeli – 6’2 PF – Lady Martin Bros 2020 / North Scott HS (IA) – 2020
I like Boffeli’s game more and more each time that I see her. She pretty much does everything really well on the floor. She can hit the mid-range jumper, she’s tough down low and very strong. Defensively she’s a menace and really makes life tough on the opponents. Boffeli is a player that is running under the radar right now and soon should be a pretty hot commodity among scholarship schools at all levels.
Matlyn Jenson – 6’2 PF – UVA Athletics Coley 2021 / Rogers HS (MN) – 2021
Jenson was a player who I noticed quickly because of how hard she played and her willingness to get inside and mix it up with everyone on the floor. She didn’t really have a ton of those “counting stats” but just pretty much did everything that was needed of her. She’s a bit raw still, but you can tell all of the intangibles are there and once the skill catches up she is going to be a huge stock riser.
Natalie Mazurek – 6’2 F – MN Fury UAA 2020 / Eden Prairie HS (MN) – 2020
Mazurek is a strong forward with a really good frame. She positions herself well to get the ball and is always looking to make the right play for her team. She likes to do most of her work inside the paint but also has the ability to move out to about 15′ and score it pretty well. Needs to work on her hands a bit as she dropped a couple passes, but Mazurek is the real deal and should garner a lot of attention.
Nneka Obiazor – 5’11 F – MN Stars Antl 2020 / Eden Prairie HS (MN) – 2020
Obiazor has everything that you’d want in a forward. Scoring, passing, rebounding, toughness, you name it and Obiazor has it. She’s quicker than she might look as well allowing her to get past smaller defenders. Obiazor is one of those players who is a total package and while a little undersized is going to give you everything she has. Really liked her total production from this weekend.
Liza Karlen – 6’2 F – Metro Stars Starks 2020 / Stillwater HS (MN) – 2020
Karlen quickly caught my attention as one of the better posts in the event. She’s an imposing 6’2 and was one of the players that I genuinely enjoyed to watch. She moves well without the ball and scores at the rim. I thought that she could have done a bit better job on rotations, but her blocking ability is so good that if she is late she can still block shots.
