Whether its coming in the game to lock-down an opposing Point Guard or bringing up the ball against a tough press, you know the type of player you’re going to see game in and game out.
When asked about her Junior season with Benet, Ashley said “Our team is full of talent and it is a very special group of girls. We are a very close group and I love playing with all my teammates. All teams have ups and downs, but I think that we had a great season and that making it down to State was a great accomplishment and such a fun experience.”
Playing on a new AAU team this summer, Example Sports has given Ashley continuous game experience against high-level talent.
“I am really enjoying playing with my new Example program; the coaches and the culture are amazing. I love how hard my coaches push me to play at my full potential and they are helping me really develop my game and my confidence. My team is starting to come together, and I am really looking forward to July.”
When asked what she viewed as strengths in her game, Ashley said “I would say my strengths are my defense, as well as my ability to find my open teammates and create shots for them and being able to knock down shots when I am open.”
It’s always impressive when a high school player understands their role and continues to work on those things to help contribute to the team. In my opinion, Ashley is spot on with her personal assessment. She’s a superb ball-handler who remains calm under pressure and, like she mentioned, thrives in setting up her teammates.
Playing as more of a “True PG”, her first look isn’t to score, but make the smart play to help her team. Perhaps her most impressive ability is her on-ball defense. She has quick feet and active hands to constantly give opposing players fits and makes it tough to get the offense going.
In terms of what Ashley is looking to improve on before Senior season, she said “I always work to improve my ball handling, but I am really focusing on being consistent with my shot and being able to create my own shots as well as getting in the best shape I can be in.”
What is going on in recruiting?
“I have been talking to coaches at all levels and it has been nice to learn about the different programs out there.”
What coach wouldn’t want a player that admits her strengths are defense and passing? Ashley is the ultimate team player who is willing to accept the role her coach gives her to help contribute to the team success. Benet Academy is poised to have success once again this season, and I look for her to be a key part of that.
