Miami Valley League ready to make their debut- Miami Division
Welcome to the newest conference in the Dayton area, as the Miami Valley League returns to the area starting in the fall, and the girls basketball scene will pose a challenge for the ten teams involved.
All of the teams moved over from the Greater Western Ohio Conference to create this league. Over the next couple of days, I will take a look at the teams in the new league. Today, a look at the Miami Division and later, a look at the Valley Division.
The Miami Division will be highlighted by the two-time defending GWOC North champion <strong>Tippecanoe Red Devils</strong>. Led by senior Kendall Clodfelter and junior Ashleigh Mader, Tipp will be the favorites to continue their championship success. But the division this year will be hotly contested as the remaining four teams will all pose a challenge for the Red Devils.
<strong>Troy</strong> was second last year, and returns a solid one-two punch which includes the returning divisonal Player of the Year, sophomore Macie Taylor, one of the top scorers in the GWOC last year. Tia Bass also returns as a senior leader at the forward spot, as does McKenna Taylor, another key senior.
<strong>Butler</strong> returns senior Gracie Price at one of the guard spots, while Evan Neely comes off a solid freshman season that saw her finish fourth on the team in scoring. Some young talent coming in will provide some good minutes and help the Aviators contend.
<strong>Greenville</strong> brings back one of the top players in the area in senior Haleigh Mayo Behnken, who has committed to Edison State. Behnken shined as a junior and will count on Morgan Gilbert as a senior to be a key contributor.
<strong>Piqua</strong> was really young last year, with five freshman on the roster. Exepcted to return is senior Tylah Yeomans, who is an athletic forward who can score and defend.
