Throughout the week we will be posting evaluations of 20 players by class (as voted on by Instagram followers) each day culminating with 10 evaluations of 2023s on Friday. This is a look at 10 players in the 2022 class who I either thought played really well or I haven’t talked much about yet this summer. You can see all of the coverage from this weekend previously posted below.
Ally Hoffman — 5’6 PG — Team Wisconsin Smith 2022 / Cascade HS (IA)
Hoffman was really solid this past weekend in my first time seeing her this summer. She’s a quick lead guard who is really starting to come into her own. Quick first step allows her to get by her defender and score at the rim. Really good passer as well showing her versatility in running the offense.
Amaya Davison — 5’4 PG — All Iowa Attack Nike Black 2022 / Des Moines Roosevelt HS (IA)
Davison is a small guard but player fairly well this past weekend. I thought that she attacked the rim well and looked to score. She scored really well through contact at the rim and really impressed me with her willingness to pass the ball. I really enjoy watching her play because she brings something new to the table every single game.
Aniah Wayne — 5’9 SF/SG — Nebraska Attack UAA 2022 / Omaha Central HS (NE)
Wayne might have been the most dominant player at the event. She was really good at creating space for herself getting to the rim. Wayne was scoring the ball on command and showed great touch around the rim as well as a really solid feel for the game. She’s a player to keep track of in the 2022 class due to her level of play.
Anna Gossling — 5’5 SG/PG — All Iowa Attack Nike Red 2022 / Johnston HS (IA)
Gossling had a really good freshman season at Johnston and has started to really show us what she can do this summer. Really good shooter from the outside but she is also starting to become more of a threat getting to the rim. Good handles allow her to stay on the ball at times if needed.
Ava Hawthorne — 5’10 SG/PG — All Iowa Attack EYBL 2021 / Gilbert HS (IA)
Hawthorne is a long guard who I think might be best off the ball. She’s a really good shooter off the catch and will continue to share ball handling duties. She plays really hard and knows the game of basketball well. Hawthorne is a player who I think is on the cusp of really breaking out once it totally comes together.
Brooke Loewe — 5’7 PG — All Iowa Attack Nike Red 2022 / Ballard HS (IA)
Loewe is a solid guard at the lead spot who can pack a punch scoring the ball as well. I think she has gotten quicker since the winter and it is really starting to show in her scoring totals. This past weekend I saw Loewe score the ball really well and at all three levels. Tough kid with a high motor who just plays hard on both ends of the floor.
Brooke Woodyard — 5’11 SF — All Iowa Attack Nike Black 2022 / Southeast Polk HS (IA)
Woodyard got out to a really nice start this weekend and was scoring the ball well. Good touch around the rim and has a nice feel for the game. She is rather skilled around the basket and has really started to breakout a bit this summer. Really long and fluid wing who should get more floor time this winter for Southeast Polk.
Cadence Pauley — 5’8 PF/SF — All Iowa Attack Nike Red 2022 / Milan C-2 HS (MO)
Pauley is wired to score the ball. She is position-less in a way because she moves so well but she is so tough I think she is going to be utilized down in the post. Really smart player with a knack to get the ball in the basket. Pauley rebounds the ball really well too as she grabs it out of the air and high points it with two hands.
Emma James — 5’7 SG — All Iowa Attack National Bell 2022 / Waverly-Shell Rock HS (IA)
James has a nice weekend as she looked to score the ball. While she didn’t torch the nets, I thought she looked really solid going to the rim and getting to the basket. She can shoot the outside shot and score off of the bounce. She didn’t see a ton of run this past year with Waverly-Shell Rock but I think she could be a surprise player for them this year.
Eviyon Richardson — 5’10 PF — All Iowa Attack Nike Black 2022 / Iowa City High HS (IA)
Richardson was really impressive this weekend based off what I have seen of her before. She was nailing shots from the outside, something that she generally doesn’t do. She had a great first game and was really active on defense throughout the entire game. I want to see her continue to play at this level in the future, and if she does she can be really good.
