The Concorde District in Northern Virginia holds a couple of storied strong basketball programs on the women’s side, and also the reigning champions of Region D, James Madison. There are plenty of players worth watching this coming winter, but here’s five players I anticipate having excellent seasons:

This rising senior was a key factor in the Warhawks’ regional final victory over South Lakes. Madison was 7-1 when she scored in double figures, and she’ll be an important factor in any run they make towards a district title and more this season. Her three-point shooting and penetration will definitely be noted on the scouting reports of Madison’s opponents this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="21936" first="Meghan" last="O’Brien"] (Chantilly, 2021)
This rising junior had her way in the paint last season and earned District Player of the Year honors. She scored 20 points or more on several occasions, as well as 16 double-doubles, including back-to-back games with 20/22 and 20/20. Consequently, the Chargers were undefeated when she scored 20 points or more. Expect her to be a force again in the paint and noted as a ‘must box out’ on scouting reports of opponents.
[player_tooltip player_id="142994" first="Megan" last="Baxter"] (Chantilly, 2021)
Chantilly’s point guard scored in double figures ten times in her sophomore campaign, and has the potential for an excellent junior season. She can be dangerous both on the perimeter and in driving to the cup. Look for her to be a focal point of the Chargers’ offense this season.
Caroline Trotter (Madison, 2020)
This 5’10 shooting guard will make trouble from perimeter defenses with her three-point shooting, and give opponent’s offenses trouble with her length on D as well. Her contributions will definitely be a factor in any run Madison takes at a district or regional championship.
[player_tooltip player_id="21956" first="Hannah" last="Kaloi"] (Oakton, 2020)
Oakton’s chance of a repeat as district champs will be heavily dependent on Kaloi’s performance. The Cougars were 18-2 when she scored in double figures last season, including a 10-game win streak stretch where she scored 10 points or more as well. It’ll be interesting to see what she does in her senior season, after winning the district last season but falling short in regionals.
