This Saturday dozens of the top players in the state will compete at Supreme Courts in Aurora, Illinois to showcase their abilities against great competition. We are extremely grateful for those who have already signed up to compete and I am very excited about the talented group we have across the board. While each class will be very well represented, I have picked out a group of players in each class to highlight before the Expo. Here are five players in the Sophomore class worth keeping an eye on this Saturday:
A sharpshooter from Bartlett High School, Kenzie Hare has already made a name for herself in the girls basketball community. The 5’9” Combo Guard, who plays AAU with M14 Hoops , is one of the most consistent three-point shooters in the state. Hare has the ability and athleticism to get in the lane and make plays, as well confidently guard opposing ball handlers.
Just one of several talented underclassmen from Montini Catholic, Angelina Giordano has already shown to be a key part to their success. The 5’8” Shooting Guard and member of the Illinois Lady Lightning attacks the lane with a purpose and can really knock down shots from beyond the arc.
Saint Viator’s 5’10” Guard Joy Bergstrom is an explosive scoring Guard that will certainly turn heads this weekend. The 2018-2019 3rd Team All-Stater at 3A competed with the Wolverinas this AAU season and really impressed with her offensive skill set. She typically plays off the ball, though she can handle it well and uses her strength to mix it up in the lane.
A key part of an exciting Fenwick squad, 6’1” Forward Audrey Hinrichs is tough as nails in the low post. She uses her strength to get good positioning on her defenders and has great footwork and ball skills to get clean looks at the hoop. Hinrichs dominated with the Chicago Power this past AAU season and I look for her to really make a name for herself during her Sophomore season.
Simone Sawyer from Stevenson High School stepped up her game big time this summer! The 5’11” Guard from Illinois Elite is an athletic, scoring Wing who really runs the floor well. Sawyer is a plus shooter from deep and can get in the lane with ease and finish at a high rate.
