The 2023 class in Iowa is insanely talented and it could end up producing talent on the level that the 2019 class did. Below I take a look at five 2023’s that are must-see basketball.
Bryar Duwe – 5’7 PG – 2023 – Decorah HS
Duwe isn’t a household name like the two players below, but she is still a very good lead guard. She has a strong base and a frame that can hold more strength. She is a quick-twitch guard who can take her man off the dribble fairly easily. Duwe plays with an edge to her game and doesn’t back down from anyone. I look for her to have a solid showing at the Expo on Sunday.
Jenna Hopp – 5’11 SG – 2023 – Glenwood HS
Hopp is one of the most talented freshmen in the state and she showed that all summer long. Running with Nebraska Attack, Hopp played some of the top competition in the nation and is going to be sure to bring her A-game to the high school season. She already holds a Division I offer and will be sure to garner more as she matures and gets older. She is in the conversation to be the top-ranked player in the 2023 class in Iowa.
Arianna Jackson – 5’7 PG – 2023 – Des Moines Roosevelt HS
Roosevelt has a ton of really solid young guards so many people might not be able to see Jackson really take off in her freshman year. Jackson is one of the top young guards in the state as she’s a fluid ball-handler who can score at every level on the floor. Jackson has tight handles and great floor vision allowing her to hurt the defense in many different ways. Jackson could end up as the top player in the class when all is said and done.
Regan Rice – 5’9 SF – 2023 – Marion HS
Rice is a very interesting wing with her size and length. I do think that she will end up being able to stay on the wing at the next level. If Rice gained a little more strength over the next couple of years I think she could become very dangerous as she could start to bounce around and play multiple spots on the floor. I am looking forward to seeing her against some of the best wings in the state this weekend.
Kaliyah Sain – 5’10 G – 2023 – Cedar Rapids Kennedy HS
I have heard a lot about Sain but I have yet to see her play live although I watched her play AAU this summer via BallerTV. She is a very dynamic guard who has the ability to score the ball against anyone and has a very high ceiling as she continues to develop. Sain has already started to develop some interest from Division I schools as she enters her freshman season. Sain will be among the names vying for that top spot when the rankings come out.
