Each week on PGH Ohio, I will be posting and updating a Power Poll of teams in this Dayton area. The top five teams based on performance will be released every Sunday evening.
<em>Week 3 (week ending Dec. 8)</em>
<span style="color: #ff0000">Division 1</span>
<strong>1. Wayne (5-0)</strong> what a finish for the Warriors on Saturday in their game against previous #2 Fairmont. Trailed by five late in the third, then led by seven midway through the fourth only to have 5-11 Bree Hall (#1 2021) score the game winner at the buzzer for 51-49 win. Also defeated Beavercreek 64-43. Another big test coming Wednesday hosting Centerville.
<strong>2. Fairmont (4-1)</strong> drops one spot after being #1 last week. Cruised past Springfield 86-33 earlier last week as senior <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/madelyn-westbeld/">[player_tooltip player_id="89318" first="Madeline" last="Westbeld"]</a> (#1 2020) scored 29, senior <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/madison-bartley/">[player_tooltip player_id="89331" first="Madison" last="Bartley"]</a> (#14 2020) added 28. Those two scored at will. Springfield senior Mickayla Perdue (reclassified to a senior) was held to 13. Travels to Beavercreek on Wednesday and hosts Centerville Saturday night.
<strong>3. Springboro (4-0)</strong> impressive week with wins over Mason, Northmont and Miamisburg. Juniors <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/jordan-hobbs/">[player_tooltip player_id="91102" first="Jordan" last="Hobbs"]</a> (6-1, Rice commit) and Peyton Nation (5-10) have been the offensive leaders early on for the Panthers. One game this week as they travel to Trotwood on Wednesday.
<strong>4. Centerville (3-1)</strong> after a win over Springfield last week, the Elks have about as big of a week as you can have, traveling to #1 Wayne on Wednesday and #2 Fairmont on Saturday. To no surprise, 2022 #3 <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/cotie-mcmahon/">[player_tooltip player_id="32611" first="Cotie" last="McMahon"]</a> and 2021 #8 <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/amy-velasco/">[player_tooltip player_id="32562" first="Amy" last="Velasco"]</a> have been the leaders, but the emergence of freshman <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/kendal-george/">[player_tooltip player_id="93541" first="Kendal" last="George"]</a> has been impressive. The newcomer had five threes in their win over Springfield.
<strong>5. Bellbrook (5-0)</strong> in a Division One world full of impressive GWOC schools, here is a Southwestern Buckeye League program who is just taking care of business and has won their first five games. 6-0 junior Bailey Zerby has been the early leader for the Golden Eagles, steady at 13 points per game. After that it has been a potpourri of different players who has contributed. Six players are averaging between 5-6 points per game and all of them can go double figures on any given night.
<span style="color: #ff0000">Division 2</span>
<strong>1. Carroll (3-1)</strong> the defending state runner-up is off to a nice start, but will need to get their travel gear ready as they become road warriors again this week. After two games away from home last week, they play at Wilmington on Monday, at #3 CJ on Wednesday and at Badin on Saturday. An impressive start to the season for junior Megan Leraas, while senior <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/julia-keller/">[player_tooltip player_id="32533" first="Julia" last="Keller"]</a> joins Leraas in double figures. As predicted, solid guard play from senior <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/allie-stefanek/">[player_tooltip player_id="89290" first="Allie" last="Stefanek"]</a>, junior Ava Lickliter and sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="159378" first="Sarah" last="Ochs"].
<strong>2. Jonathan Alder (4-0)</strong> solid start to the season for the Pioneers as expected. <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/abby-jones/">[player_tooltip player_id="89269" first="Abby" last="Jones"]</a> leads the team in points, rebounds, tied in steals and second in assists, while Sydney Bourquin is also averaging double figures in scoring, leads in assists and tied in steals. Bourquin also continues to set assist records at the school. The early surprise has been senior Melissa Walbom and a sophomore to watch is Mary Ferrito. JA plays at Urbana on Wednesday and hosts Bellefontaine on Saturday.
<strong>3. Chaminade Julienne (5-1)</strong> impressive start for the Eagles, with wins against Alter and McNicholas last week. This will be a true test week for the Eagles, hosting Carroll on Wednesday and Roger Bacon on Saturday. A balanced team with seniors Jordyn Varise and Eve Monaghan both averaging low doubles, while senior Staci Greene is at nine. Monaghan had two double-doubles last week.
<strong>4. Valley View (4-2)</strong> after a rough 0-2 start, the Spartans have started to tune things up with four straight wins. Three big wins last week over Edgewood 44-28, Oakwood 59-34 and Monroe 62-33. IUPFW signee senior <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/aubrey-stupp/">[player_tooltip player_id="32528" first="Aubrey" last="Stupp"]</a> currently leads the SWBL in scoring at 17.8. Valley View travels to Talawanda on Wednesday and head to Bellbrook on Saturday afternoon in a game PGH Ohio will be covering.
<strong>5(tie). Eaton (4-0)</strong> a lot of early season success for the Eagles which includes solid wins against Madison, Greenville and most recently a good win over National Trail. Senior Bailey Shepherd (Indiana Tech signee) is right behind Stupp in scoring in the SWBL. 5-10 junior Lexi Miller had been strong in the early season. Tough week ahead with Ross, Bellbrook and Franklin.
<strong>5(tie). Greenville (2-1)</strong> makes their debut in the top five after solid wins against D1 Troy and Fairborn. Senior Morgan Gilbert had the hot hand against Troy with 21 points and senior Haleigh Behnken (Edison State signee) added 15. They were 19-30 from the line (after going 21-40 the game prior in a two point loss) which doesn’t help, but they the earned the win. Behnken came back with 18 on Saturday as they defeated Fairborn. Greenville hosts Butler on Wednesday and goes to Stebbins on Saturday morning.
<span style="color: #ff0000">Division 3</span>
<strong>1. Versailles (5-1)</strong> Big comeback win for the Tigers on Saturday, defeating Miami East 48-37 behind 18 for 6-3 unsigned senior Brooke Stonebraker, 5-8 senior Danielle Kunk and UD volleyball recruit 6-1 senior <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/lindsey-winner/">[player_tooltip player_id="32543" first="Lindsey" last="Winner"]</a> with nine. Miami East led 23-13 at the half. Also last week, Winner hit a 15-footer at the buzzer to give the Tigers a 42-40 victory over league foe Fort Recovery. Hosts Tipp Monday, Marion Local on Thursday and travels to Lima Bath on Saturday.
<strong>2. Arcanum (4-1)</strong> after a tough loss back on opening weekend, the Trojans have won three straight including a 30 point win at Bethel. 5-8 unsigned senior Kayla O’Daniel has been steady every night, while the youngsters <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/taylor-gray/">[player_tooltip player_id="32607" first="Taylor" last="Gray"]</a> (jr), <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/madelyn-fearon/">[player_tooltip player_id="32604" first="Madelyn" last="Fearon"]</a> (soph) and Hailey Unger (soph) have all been producing at a solid rate. Arcanum hosts Preble Shawnee on Tuesday and travel to Miami East on Saturday.
<strong>3. West Liberty Salem (5-1)</strong> lost to Fort Loramie in a big way last week, but bounced back with big wins over Triad and Northeastern. Junior Selena Weaver continues her hot start this season with 15 against Triad, and leads the Ohio Heritage Conference in field goal percentage. <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/emily-hollar/">[player_tooltip player_id="32610" first="Emily" last="Hollar"]</a>, only a sophomore, is one to watch. WLS plays West Jefferson on Thursday.
<strong>4. Greenon (3-0) </strong>makes their debut in the top 5 after starting the season with three consecutive wins. Unsigned senior Reagan Ware leads the conference in scoring at 20 ppg while 5-7 freshman Claire Henry is making a name for herself early. Senior Delaney Benedict has also played steady in the first three games. Greenon travels to Oakwood on Tuesday and heads to Southeastern Thursday.
<strong>5. Anna (4-1)</strong> remains fifth despite a loss to New Bremen, after wins against Lehman and Russia last week. The Rockets return to action on Saturday against Houston.
<span style="color: #ff0000">Division 4</span>
<strong>1 (tie). Tri Village (4-0)</strong> had a statement win last week with a 63-37 win against previous #3 Franklin Monroe. Freshman <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/morgan-hunt/">[player_tooltip player_id="93548" first="Morgan" last="Hunt"]</a> led with 20, freshman Riley Sagester added 14, unsigned 6-0 senior <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/maddie-downing/">[player_tooltip player_id="32531" first="Maddie" last="Downing"]</a> scored 13, PGH top-5 2022 <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/meghan-downing/">[player_tooltip player_id="32603" first="Meghan" last="Downing"]</a> contributed eight, unsigned senior Trisa Porter also scored eight. Plays at Houston on Monday, hosts Mississinawa Valley on Thursday and travels to Northeastern IN on Saturday.
<strong>1 (tie). Fort Loramie (5-0)</strong> this team is flat out impressive with their stifling defense. This week, they play New Knoxville and Jackson Center. They scored a school record 97 points on Saturday against Houston with sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="159381" first="Ava" last="Sholtis"] scoring 19 points with five assists, Kennedi Gephart added 14 points, Taylor Ratermann and <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/marissa-meiring/">[player_tooltip player_id="89273" first="Marissa" last="Meiring"]</a> each scored 12, Kenzi Hoelscher poured in 10.
<strong>3. Mechanicsburg (6-0)</strong> the beat rolls on for a talented Indians squad. Wins last week against West Jefferson and Triad keep them unbeaten, and they travel to Fairbanks on Thursday and host Marysville on Saturday. Junior guard Grace Forrest is off to a solid start for Mechanicsburg, while unsigned senior Kasey Schipfer is playing at a high level.
<strong>4. Minster (4-1)</strong> after a rough opener against Fort Loramie, the Wildcats have won four straight and moves up one spot. Earned wins last week against Parkway and Jackson Center. <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/ivy-wolf/">[player_tooltip player_id="32556" first="Ivy" last="Wolf"]</a> (#4 2021) led with 21 against Parkway, unsigned senior Averi Wolf added 12 and junior Janae Hoying scored 10. The Cats return to action this week at Delphos St. Johns on Thursday.
<strong>5 (tie). Franklin Monroe (4-1)</strong> dropped a spot after a loss to co-#1 Tri Village. The Jets have been led by Kentucky Wesleyan signee <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/corina-conley/">[player_tooltip player_id="89341" first="Corina" last="Conley"]</a>, along with a plethora of outstanding perimeter guards. FM returns to action this week at Ansonia on Thursday.
<strong>5 (tie). Legacy Christian (2-2)</strong> big win against Jefferson, and this week will bring high-scoring sophomore Angela Smith from Yellow Springs to battle the Knights.
