Weekly Evaluations: Week 2
Each Sunday we will be posting the previous week’s player evaluations. This past week we headed out to four games and saw eight different teams and four really solid games. We were able to see Aplington-Parkersburg vs. BCLUW, Roland-Story vs. East Marshall, Center Point-Urbana vs. Waverly-Shell Rock, and Indianola vs. Norwalk. Below you can find 25 evaluations on players that stood out the most.
Sophia Jungling

Jungling

Aplington-Parkersburg | 2020
State
IA
– 5’5 PG – 2020 – Aplington-Parkersburg
Jungling was all over the floor in her game as she was able to attack the defense with her driving ability but also had her court vision on full display. She has a great motor and the ability to decide the outcome of the game herself with her defense. Committed to Northern Iowa for Track.
Megan Johnson

Johnson
5'9" | SF
Aplington-Parkersburg | 2020
State
IA
– 5’9 SG – 2020 – Aplington-Parkersburg
Johnson looks much more confident in her jumper than she did last year. Johnson is an active player on both ends of the floor and holds the ability to get the ball up the court quickly. She has active hands on the defensive end of the floor and with her length she is able to create a lot of turnovers.
Madison Ubben

Ubben
5'10" | PF
BCLUW | 2020
State
IA
– 5’11 PF – 2020 – BCLUW
Ubben was impressive in the post with her ability to score with both hands. She is a very good rebounder who has the ability to go and grab the ball, not just wait for it to drop off the rim to her. Ubben is an under-the-radar talent in the class in the post.
Allison Engle – 5’10 F – 2021 – BCLUW
Engle plays a bit out of position for BCLUW as she is likely going to be a wing or a stretch-four at the next level. She can handle the ball well for her size and can initiate the offense. She had a solid game for BCLUW and as she develops could be a steal for a small school at the next level that utilizes her well.
Reagan Barkema

Barkema

Roland-Story | 2022
State
IA
– 5’11 SF – 2022 – Roland-Story
Barkema has improved so much over the past year that it is almost uncanny. She can knock down shots at a much more consistent rate now. If anything, I would like her to be even more aggressive with the ball in her hands as she was sometimes thinking too much about driving or shooting it.
Reece Johnson – 5’6 G – 2022 – Roland-Story
Johnson is a nice piece for Roland-Story as she does a little bit of everything on the floor. Defensively she was very solid as she’s gotten a little quicker over the past year and is much more aggressive on that end. Johnson also scored the ball well against East Marshall while shooting the ball solidly from deep.
Juliann Clark – 5’5 PG – 2020 – Roland-Story
Clark is a very solid lead guard who you can trust with the ball in her hands. She can score the ball but tends to take on more of a distributing role. She has good awareness on the floor and finds the open man leading to easy baskets. Really quick hands on the defensive end.
Olivia Terrones
Olivia
Terrones
5'8" | SF
East Marshall | 2020
State
IA
– 5’7 SF – 2020 – East Marshall
Terrones is an intriguing guard because I think she can be good with some additional scorers around her and at Eas Marshall that’s just not the case. She would fit well as the two or three in a motion offense as she can hit off the catch well. She’ll post big numbers this year because she has to.
Clare Veren – 5’9 SF – 2021 – East Marshall
I liked Veren as she was super active on both ends of the floor. She was at the top of the press and showed a very good ability to get her hands on the ball. She showed the ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter but also get into the lane and score. She’s someone to keep an eye on.
Ellie Hull – 5’7 G – 2022 – East Marshall
Hull struggled a bit shooting the ball but was an overall very solid player for East Marshall. She has a high basketball IQ and a very solid court vision allowing her to pass teammates open. Her quickness also allows her to generate steals and put pressure on the offense.
Adrianna Katcher

Katcher

Center Point-Urbana | 2020
State
IA
– 5’11 SF – 2020 – Center Point-Urbana
Katcher struggled early on in the game against Waverly-Shell Rock but settled in after a while. I thought that she played at a good pace throughout the game and got others involved. She has the ability to get going on the offensive end but I thought her defense was what won them the game. Southern Illinois commit.

Goebel
5'11" | SF
Center Point-Urbana | 2022
State
IA
– 5’11 SF – 2022 – Center Point-Urbana
Goebel was as good as advertised once again. Her defense is one of the best in the state with her ability to force steals at the top of their press. She showed the willingness to shoot the jumper and as that becomes a more consistent piece to her game, her overall ability is going to take off even more.
Bryn Hadsall
Bryn
Hadsall
5'5" | PG
Center Point-Urbana | 2020
State
IA
– 5’6 PG – 2020 – Center Point-Urbana
Hadsall is the next point guard in line for her team. Even though she didn’t score the ball, she showed the ability to create her own shot and get teammates in good positions to score. Hadsall plays tough and looks to hit the boards hard despite her size.
Emma DeSmet – 5’11 SF – 2021 – Center Point-Urbana
DeSmet didn’t play much in the game but she is a very intriguing piece for Center Point-Urbana. She is a mobile wing who has a lot of length. She moves well without the ball and can rebound it at a high level when in the game.
Laine Hadsall

Center Point-Urbana | 2023
State
IA
– 5’3 PG – 2023 – Center Point-Urbana
Hadsall came off the bench and was someone who caught my eye with the ability to shoot the ball. She was 1-of-3 on the night but was able to knock one down off-the-catch. She’ll continue to improve as she gets older.
Abbie Draper
Abbie
Draper
6'1" | PF
Waverly-Shell Rock | 2021
State
IA
– 6’1 PF – 2021 – Waverly-Shell Rock
Draper was a stalwart on the inside for Waverly-Shell Rock. She was able to score the ball on pretty much every touch and she rebounded the ball at a high level. I would like to see her be a little more aggressive on the inside with her skill because she’s going to have to be the bulk of the scoring this year. Bradley commit.
Britney Young
Britney
Young
5'8" | PG
Waverly-Shell Rock | 2020
State
IA
– 5’8 G – 2020 – Waverly-Shell Rock
Young had tremendous success shooting the ball against Center Point-Urbana. She showed confidence in her jumper and also showed the ability to connect from well beyond the arc. She dished off five assists in the game showcasing her overall offensive ability. She’s a player who I think can be good at the next level.
Camryn Grawe
Camryn
Grawe
5'7" | SF
Waverly-Shell Rock | 2020
State
IA
– 5’7 G – 2020 – Waverly-Shell Rock
Grawe didn’t score as much as she can but she still had a good game as she was able to dish off a few assists and had a couple steals as well. She has a good frame that can hold strength allows her to defend at a high level but also finish through contact. I’ve always been impressed with her game.
Trinidee Moore
Trinidee
Moore
5'7" | PG
Waverly-Shell Rock | 2022
State
IA
– 5’6 PG – 2022 – Waverly-Shell Rock
Moore came off the bench in this game but was effective on both ends. She is a smart player who controls the ball well and plays very solid defense. She might not enter the stat sheet a ton, but she is such a solid all-around player. Great ability to create for others.
Lauren Blake
Lauren
Blake
5'11" | SF
Indianola | 2022
State
IA
– 5’10 SF – 2022 – Indianola
I was very impressed with Blake against Norwalk. She showed the ability to score both in transition and in the half-court at all three levels. Early in the spring Blake was a little raw but very athletic and now she’s improved her skill quite a bit and shows flashes of being able to take over a game. Really impressed with her performance.
Kendall Clatt – 5’10 SG – 2021 – Indianola
Clatt was able to shoot the ball at a high level against Norwalk as she was 3-for-6 from behind the arc and ended up scoring 18 points in the game. She can be a really solid scorer from the two-guard spot in college and I think her summer and now her junior year is showing just that.
Alley May – 5’10 PF – 2021 – Indianola
I hadn’t seen May prior to this week and I was really impressed with what I saw from her. She an athletic rebounder who high points the ball really well off the rim. May has the ability to score the ball but didn’t really do that much around the rim scoring-wise. She is someone who could jump on the radar quickly.
Mara Bishop
Mara
Bishop
5'7" | PG
Indianola | 2022
State
IA
– 5’7 G – 2022 – Indianola
Bishop was all over the floor playing at a high level. She has the ability to score the ball at a really high level and is automatic from the line as she went 8-for-8 from the floor. She fits into the team at Indianola really well and can consistently be a third scorer for a team that will score a lot this year.
Jocelyn Bice
Jocelyn
Bice
5'7" | PG
Norwalk | 2022
State
IA
– 5’7 G – 2022 – Norwalk
Bice struggled a little bit in the early going of the game as she was being facegaurded for the entire game. She showed the ability to move well without the ball and get open on her own for most of the game. Bice is a quick guard who once she gets going is tough to stop. She’ll have to learn to play with pressure a bit better, however.
Bren Moritz – 6′ PF – 2021 – Norwalk
Moritz was solid on the inside for Norwalk as she was able to score the ball consistently and rebounded the ball really well. Moritz walked away with a double-double and was able to send several shots ball. She has the ability to dominate on both ends of the floor.
