When viewing games it’s always important to watch players in warm-ups and how they carry themselves in general. When college scouts are evaluating players they pay attention to every detail. Both teams and coaching staffs are due credit for carrying themselves in a professional way before, during and after the game. Excelling in those areas go a long way in successful evaluation of players. Both teams played hard and displayed good quality basketball but in the end Providence Day pulled out the victory 47-44. Here are 5 players to keep an eye on from the game!
Jordyn Latter
Latter is a freshmen guard for Providence Day. Currently she isn’t starting but when she gets on the floor she makes things happen. What stuck out early was that she loves to defend. She was making life difficult on the ball handlers she was facing. As she develops I can see her being a problem to score on. On offense, she can run the floor and does a great job getting to the basket. She has good speed and although aggressive, she plays within the concept of the team. I’m expecting great things from Latter and I’m sure she will continue to work hard!
Reagan Richardson
Richardson, of Cannon, is one of the top juniors in the state. What I like about Richardson is her ability to understand the flow of the game. She can step her game up when the team needs it or she can play the long game and get her teammates going early. She can shoot the ball, she is able to get to the basket and is really solid across all facets of the game. She is clearly better than everyone on the floor. Richardson doesn’t do anything fancy, she just gets the job done. Richardson has another year in high school and she will only get better. I’m excited to see what she adds to her game over the next year.
Zoe Edwards
Edwards is a junior guard for Cannon. Edwards does a great job running the offense for Cannon. She makes sure her team is in the right play and under control. You can tell she understands the game and her role. She is the extension of her coach and when you have that rapport, good things happen. A major skill she has is shooting the ball! I’m impressed with her jump shot. She is able to knock down the 3 pointer on the kick out. Being able to hit the knock down 3 as a point guard is a major plus!
Chandler Brooks
Brooks is a freshmen guard for Providence Day. Brooks is a very smart player. I like how she controls the ball and makes the right play. She is very strong and has great feel for what she is doing. Brooks knows her way around the basket as well. She attacks the rim and is able to get her shot to fall. Brooks doesn’t play like normal freshmen as she doesn’t show any fear. As she improves and works on her game, I think Brooks will be a total force in the next year or so. I see her as the type of player that could take over a game and you not even know it!
Trinity Mathis
Mathis is a freshmen guard/forward for Cannon. She will be pretty good real soon! Right now she is feeling her way into the system. She understands her role and making contributions when she can. She runs the floor well and is very active. This season she is going to gain a great deal of experience and it will benefit her down the road. I like her potential and she is one to keep an eye on!
