Cuthbertson used a great run in the 2nd half to Win this game 59 – 50 over a tough & scrappy Weddington team. I have identified some things I noticed about the game and some players that competed in it.
1 – This Game is like a “Backyard Brawl”
- These 2 teams are very close to each other, most of the players went to school or played youth sports together growing up. I would consider this a big rivalry in Union County NC, these schools are winning State Championships in multiple sports and it is only right that Basketball is the next in line for them to hang a banner.
2 – Cuthbertson is primed for another deep Run in the NCHSAA Class AAA Playoffs.
- Coming off an appearance in the State Championship game and adding Freshman Reagan Iovino that adds a consistent deep threat to go along with the other players with very good size that this team has, I don’t see why not. The leadership of the upperclassmen like 2020 – Lilly Anderson ( NJIT Commit) and 2020 – Lauryn Hardiman – have been awesome to watch over the last 3 years. This team plays hard, has a high IQ and ability to play with anyone in the AAA Classification in North Carolina – I am interested to see how things play out during the post season.
3 – Maddie Dillinger is emerging as the Leader on this team…
- I have watched Maddie Dillinger take major strides in developing her game over the last 2 years, and she blossomed in front of me while watching this game. This was the 1st time I witnessed someone have multiple Buzzer beating shots in the same game (1st & 3rd Qtrs) both were done while attacking the glass to clean up misses. The versatility that she is showing on the court is eye popping, she was able to score on the block and beyond the 3-Pt line, hand out a few assists & steals, if you add in the 12 Rebounds and 17 Pts she poured in, you can see why I think she is a Div 1 Prospect. This team will lean on here consistently throughout this state playoff run and she will be there for them.
4 – Miranda Barron is going to have an outstanding Summer on the AAU/Club circuit.
- I have noticed Miranda Barron in the past and she has always been a good player, but during this game she has shown drastic improvement in her game. I was impressed with her strong handle and quickness to get to the rim, she made some And 1…Mixtape type moves out on the court. Being a smaller Guard she is going to need to do things that make her stand out, I saw that throughout the game against Cuthbertson. In talking with her following the game she is still undecided on a AAU/Club program for this summer, so anyone reading this that needs a solid combo guard for their travel team…. Here you go….
5 – There is talent in Union County, NC….. Girls Basketball is loaded with prospects….
- I am going to name a few players that are Div 1 & 2 Scholarship prospects that played in this game.
