Continue ReadingThe Blue Ridge District had more battles where The Class of 2021 and 2022 stood out. There was a battle at Staunton River, where the Northside Lady Vikings who had a struggling season, put up a strong game to keep the game exciting but falling just short to the Golden Eagles 50-45. Staunton River was led by Sophomore guard Jeni Levine who had a game-high 22 points but her intensity running and being all over the court getting rebounds or just causing havoc on the defense-end, is what kept her team on top.
#11 Samantha Johnson with a hand in her face.Northside Junior guard Gianna Brown led the team with 14 points. Gianna is a very skilled player who can see the floor and uses a variety of moves to get to the basket, she is not afraid to go to the post and be physical as a smaller guard. Another Junior, Samantha Johnson did what she could with her intensity on the boards and passing to keep Northside in striking distance. She ended up with 13 points, in which, 10 was in the second half including 2 three-pointers. I’m excited to see what these 2 juniors can do in the upcoming district tournament.

The final game we had in the district was at Franklin County, this game wasn’t as close with Franklin County beating William Byrd 62-29. Franklin County was led by 6’1″ Sophomore Jaedyn James who led all scorers with 22 points. She is very strong and athletic, in which she had most of her points in the post, making moves or just getting the ball and going up strong.
Ta’mya Robertson staying strong with the ball while getting trapped.Jaedyn had help with her fellow Sophomore Ta’mya Robertson, she is a 5’8″ guard who can shoot the ball, she ended up with 14 points in the game. William Byrd just didn’t have enough to hang with Franklin County, Sophomore guard Emilie McCaskill and Freshman Sophia Chrisley combined for 25 out of William Byrds 29 total points. Emilie is a very smart player who plays the passing lanes well to come up with steals, she can run the floor and a consistent shooter. She had 14 points in the game. Sophia is a 5’8″ guard who can shoot the ball, she is a knockdown 3-point shooter who knows how to get open. She scored 11 points in the game. Emilie and Sophia will be a threat on the court for years to come.
