In the first game, Hersey and Lake Forest battled back and forth for the entirety of the game, with the Scouts coming away with a 48-44 win. In the late game, Fremd was in control against Libertyville for the majority of the game, though the lead rarely exceeded 5 points, as the Vikings advanced with a 55-49 victory. Here are some standout performances from the two semifinal games:
2021 Mary Kate Fahey Mary Kate Fahey 5'7" | PG Hersey | 2021 State IL , 5’8” Guard, Hersey
One of the best Point Guards in the Junior class, Fahey once again did a nice job leading her team on both ends of the floor. She’s a high IQ player who makes the right play regularly and showcased her shooting ability Monday night, hitting on 3 triples. Fahey finished with 14 points for the game.
2023 Bella Ranallo, 5’5” Guard, Lake Forest
Ranallo may be a Freshman, but she was not afraid of the Sectional semifinal spotlight. She’s a tough ball handler who thrives at driving the lane with quick first step to blow past defenders. Bella finished with 8 points for the game.
2020 Jordan Carlquist, 5’7” Guard, Hersey
Carlquist had an excellent second half to keep Hersey even with Lake Forest when the game was back and forth. Her mid-range jumper from the elbow was pure, as she made three on three attempts. Carlquist is quick with the ball in her hands and has a nice handle to keep defenders off balance as she keeps the offense flowing.
2020 Halle Douglass Halle Douglass 6'1" | CG Lake Forest | 2020 State IL , 6’2” Guard, Lake Forest
The Wisconsin commit was a terrific leader in the win, especially in the second half when plays needed made. Douglass can do it all on both ends with her length on defense and offensive skill set. She hit on a couple threes and mid-range jumpers, but also converted several times at the hoop with her ability to create open looks for herself. Halle finished with a game-high 20 points.
2020 Emily Klaczek Emily Klaczek 5'9" | CG Fremd | 2020 State IL , 5’10” Guard, Fremd
The UAB commit was fantastic in her teams win, and a big part of their quick start. Klaczek scored 7 of the teams first 13 points while doing a nice job attacking the lane off the dribble and knocking down jumpers. Her strength and quickness allow her to fight her way into the paint and finish at the bucket well in contact. Emily finished the game with 13 points.
2020 Margaret Buchert Margaret Buchert 5'6" | CG Libertyville | 2020 State IL , 5’7” Guard, Libertyville
With Libertyville trailing by just a few points for much of the game, the deficit would have been greater without Buchert’s game-high 20 points. The DePauw commit was fantastic scoring the ball, knocking down a few deep three pointers and finding her way to the basket for a handful of nifty layups.
2020 Olivia Hill Olivia Hill 6'4" | PF Fremd | 2020 State IL , 6’0” Forward, Fremd
A key part in Fremds big third quarter, Hill was unstoppable on the glass. The Bowling Green commit was the hardest worker throughout much of the game, using her length and physicality to dominate the paint. Hill finished with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
2023 Emily Fisher Emily Fisher 6'0" | SF Libertyville | 2023 State #48 Nation IL , 5’11” Guard, Libertyville
One of the top players in the Class of 2023, Fisher made her presence known against one of the states best and most veteran teams. She does a nice job of using her strength and athleticism to get the ball deep on the block to where she uses a variety of post moves to get good looks at the hoop. Fisher also showcased a plus jump shot which makes her a threat from outside, as well. She finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds.
