The Vikings left with the 74 to 47 win behind Jessica Timmons‘ 28 points, leaving her 24 points shy of hitting 2000 points in her high school career.
Jessica Timmons #23 | North Meck | Junior SG
Did you catch that? Timmons is a JUNIOR in high school and close to hitting 2000 points in her career at North Mecklenburg. Not only is she a scoring machine, she found ways to get all of her teammates involved contributing 5 assists on top of her points. She is a great ball handler and even better defender adding 4 steals to her resume. The best attribute is her basketball IQ knowing when to shoot, dribble and penetrate to open up a teammate, or reposition herself to better help her team succeed.
Neveah Farmer #15 | North Meck | Freshman PG
The pressure of playing in her first playoff game in high school did not seem to bring this freshman down. Farmer forced a handful of turnovers making it difficult for the Spartans to get any successful possessions. She got all of her teammates involved with several assists making smart passes. As she matures in high school, she will find more of a voice as the point guard and will become an unstoppable leader.
Alonna Dunlap #55 | North Meck | Senior PF
Dunlap makes herself be a big presence inside. She is agile with her post moves and very efficient with her scoring ability contributing 13 points to the Vikings’ victory. Her skills did not stop on defense as she made it very difficult for South Caldwell to score anywhere close to the basket.
Taylor Austin #10 | South Caldwell | Senior PG
Austin was tied for the leading scorer for the South Caldwell Spartans with 10 points. However, she contributed to even more baskets than that with her 3 assists and 2 steals. She showed great vision and controlled the tempo of the game for her team. She showed great senior leadership with keeping her teammates motivated throughout the game and finding ways to get everyone involved.
Kaitlyn Propst #2 | South Caldwell | Junior PG
Propst was the best ball handling guard on the floor, especially against the terrorizing press of North Meck. As a senior next year, she will only increase her confidence and make it very difficult for defenders to make any kind of play on the ball. When she was on defense, South Caldwell had her at the top of their 1-2-2 defense where she could display her quick movements and defensive IQ.
Katlyn Winn #32 | South Caldwell | Sophomore PF
Winn was the first player off the bench for South Caldwell, and she had an immediate impact. Contributing 10 points and a 3 rebounds, she showed strong moves in the post against senior opposition. She made smart cuts in the middle of the lane to make herself open as well as called for the ball to score baskets. She should definitely stay on the radar for the rest of her high school career.
