This list will look at the top point guards amongst rising juniors. For the sake of this list, we are defining points guards as a team’s primary ballhandler who sets up the offense. That makes these players vitally important, as they control their team’s entire offense and therefore have a huge influence over how the whole game is played. Here are the players who do the best job exerting that influence.
Brooklynn Miles Brooklynn Miles 5'6" | PG Franklin County | 2021 State #48 Nation KY , Franklin County- One of the early favorites for next year’s Miss Basketball, Miles is the standout player in this class. She had a strong junior season as the focal point of a Franklin County team that made it to Rupp. Miles was a standout on both offense and defense and is primed for a great senior season.
Hayley Caudill Hayley Caudill 5'6" | PG Knott County Central | 2021 State KY , Hazard- A do it all player for the Lady Bulldogs, Caudill makes an impact everywhere. She’s her team’s best scorer and playmaker, bringing energy and fight to go along with her skill. She’s also an exceptional rebounder for her size and position, a sign of her grit and toughness.
Alexa Smiddy Alexa Smiddy 5'5" | PG Southwestern | 2021 State KY , Southwestern- Striking a balance between scoring a playmaking is key for any point guard, and Smiddy strikes that balance as well as anyone in the state. She is able to create shots both for herself and for her teammates. Whichever she’s doing, Smiddy did a great job running an inexperienced Southwestern offense this season.
Kelci Blair Kelci Blair 5'6" | PG Johnson Central | 2021 State KY , Johnson Central- Blair had a breakout year this season, emerging as one of the top players in the mountains. She excelled scoring the basketball, showing an ability to catch fire inside and outside the arc. She also showed off playmaking ability, understanding when to step back and distribute rather than score.
Amelia Hodges Amelia Hodges 5'6" | SG Bethlehem | 2021 State KY , Bethlehem- Although she has more of a score-first mentality, Hodges generally serves as the Banshees’ primary ball-handler and therefore fits the mold of a point guard. Hodges certainly can score, consistently creating her own shots and knocking them down from all over the court. While she is not as much of a playmaker as others on this list, Hodges still has the ability to generate plenty of offense.
