Who are the defensive stars in Fayetteville high school basketball in 2019-20?
lets look at some of the top players in Fayetteville high school basketball. I will focus on those who star on defense.
Note that there are many more standout basketball players in Fayetteville and these lists are not intended to be comprehensive.
Kaya, Goldsby Jack Britt , Sophomore
The 5-foot-6 Goldsby is averaging around 10 points, 3.5 assists and four steals per game this season. “She flat-out makes this team what it is,” Rams coach Sandy Dickerson said. “She finds the right people at the right time to get them the ball.” After speaking with the coaches of these players this is what I got.
Harmony, Martin, Freshman
The 5-foot-7 Martin, has been a contributor on both ends of the court. As of Feb. 7, Martin was averaging 9.4 points per game and still playing top-flight defense. “She is extremely determined and she takes pride in her defense,” Martin coach said. “She has really good feet but at the end of the day it’s about heart and determination.”
Nyla Cooper, Jack Britt, junior
A do-it-all 5-foot-6 guard, Cooper is one of Jack Britt’s smartest players. As of Feb. 11, she was averaging 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals per game. “Nyla is a great on-ball defender and gets into the passing lanes,” Buccuneers coach Natlie McAurthur said. “She sees the floor really well and has picked up her scoring this year as well.”
Dai’ja Robinson, Douglas Byrd, Junior
A breakthrough star at the Class 4A level, the 5-foot-6 Anundi was averaging 16 points, five rebounds per game as of Feb. 6. Byrd coach Jernard Grant said Robinson has nothing but heart. “Robinson is very athletic for her size,” Kiser added. “But the most special thing to me is her selflessness. She is the ultimate teammate and doesn’t worry about her stats; she just wants the team to win.”
Montasia Jones, Pine Forest, junior
The 5-foot-6 Jones has made tremendous strides during the season, Trojans coach Kala Press said. As of Feb. 11, the versatile Jones was averaging 13 points, four rebounds 4 steals per game. “She is a defensive presence on the perimetert contesting penatration,” Blue added. “Multifaceted offensive game and good at the free throw line.”

The 5 foot-7 Martin has made tremendous strides during the season, Wolverines coach Michael Ferguson said. As of Feb. 11, the versatile Martin was averaging 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks per game. “she is a defensive presence around the basket contesting shots,” Ferguson added. “Multifaceted offensive game and good at the free throw line.”
