NW Guilford defeated North Mecklenburg 71-47 in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament. It was a great team effort by NW as they played great defense and moved the ball well on offense. NM is a young team and they will be back next year I’m certain. NW is a solid well experienced team and will move on to play Mallard Creek in the next round!
Thalia Carter
Carter is a 5-8 senior guard for NW Guilford in Greensboro, NC. I would really like for someone to sign her if she hasn’t been signed by the time this article is published. Carter is a general! She will be a great addition to a college team. She is a leader, runs the offense, and is very smart. She makes sure her team is in the right play, controls the tempo and doesn’t make any mistakes. She isn’t the fastest or the quickest but she is normally better than any guard she faces. She understands how to play the game. Carter defends tough and her team follows her lead. She is deceptively quick off the dribble. Carter can get in the lane and finish at the basket. She is a seasoned senior player and led her team to a victory over North Mecklenburg in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs. Carter is the engine!
Reagan Kargo
Kargo is a 5’9 senior guard from NW Guilford in Greensboro, NC. Kargo will attend Limestone University next season. Kargo can flat out shoot! She doesn’t miss many open shots. If you leave her alone, she will make you pay. There were plenty of times in the game where NM left her alone due to other’s penetration or play calling. That was a big mistake because she nailed the jumper over and over. She can also dribble well enough to get the ball up the floor to relieve the PG. Kargo is also crafty enough with her dribble to get to the basket when needed. She is a scorer and you better not leave her open!
Jessica Timmons Jessica Timmons 5'9" | PG Independence | 2021 State #68 Nation NC
Timmons is a 5’9 junior guard from North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville, NC. Timmons is very skilled and she can shoot the ball and get to the basket. She can fill up the basket in a variety of ways. In this particular game, NW made sure she wouldn’t beat them by herself so they keyed on her in multiple ways. Her attitude was great as she didn’t show frustration but the next step for Timmons as she enters her senior year is to help her teammates improve during the offseason. She can do this by increasing her leadership skills, being more vocal and by setting the example. The sky is the limit for Timmons, she is a very good player! She is ready to take the next step to be great!
Nevah Farmer
Farmer is a 5’4 freshmen guard for North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville, NC. Farmer has the potential to be really good. She handles the ball well and has a nice jump shot. She is still young and can benefit from more experience but she is on her way to being very good. Against NW, she played against an experienced guard and held her own but it wasn’t enough to help the team win. Farmer will learn from this experience and next year, with a strong summer workout plan, she should be stronger and hungrier. I look forward to seeing great things from Farmer next season.
