The Cardinals knocked off the Vikings 65-36 Tuesday to advance to the regional championship where they’ll take on E.E. Smith. Here are four standouts from this fourth round matchup featuring a ton of talented prospects across the board:
While it was a struggle for the Vikings on offense, 2023 guard Kylah Silver was able to hold her own against a really good Jacksonville lineup. She led Conley with 17 points and made a number of defensive plays. Silver is a talented and intriguing prospect and her stock is only going to keep going up during the AAU season and into her sophomore year.
Unsigned senior Kelly Luck was the focal point of the Cardinals offense especially from the outside. The Jacksonville guard couldn’t miss from three point range in the first half and ended up with a game high 22 points. Four of her six made triples were in the first quarter including a long range buzzer beater to set the tone.
Fellow unsigned senior guard Mia Tucker made a lot of hustle plays and got to the basket with ease against the Conley defense. A play that really stood out was when she had a layup attempt blocked and she sprinted the length of the floor to prevent a basket on the other end. Tucker might be small in stature, but she played bigger than everyone on the floor Tuesday night.
Kennedy Todd-Williams, Prep Girls Hoops’ top prospect in North Carolina’s 2020 class, was also excellent in this game scoring 19 points. The Jacksonville combo guard got after it on both ends of the floor, created second chance opportunities with offensive rebounds, and balanced her scoring between all three levels. UNC women’s basketball is in good hands with her and Southeast Raleigh 2020 forward Anya Poole in their latest recruiting class.
Jacksonville, the number five seed, is now 24-3 on the season while top seeded Conley finishes 29-1. The Cardinals will travel to Fayetteville State University to face third ranked E.E. Smith who comes in with a 30-1 record after winning 86-56 over Hunt. This will be for all the regional marbles and a berth in the 3-A state championship game will be on the line at Capel Arena.
