The 2020 2A State Basketball Championship begins Wednesday, March 11, at Kansas State University’s Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan. With the eve of the tournament at hand Prep Girls Hoops is taking a look at wings who can be found from the shooting guard to small forward position.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="121771" first="Libby" last="Frost"], F, 5’8", Trego Community, Northwest Kansas Stars, 2020</strong> -- A Mid-Continent League honorable mention selection in 2019 while averaging 9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. While she has a quick first step on the wing Frost is most commonly found laying post moves on defenders inside. Able to score with either hand and go to either direction from anywhere in the paint, Frost has a nose for the hole. Her IQ shows with her box-outs, passing lane denying and jumping, her rebounding, and how she gathers herself before getting off a shot or making moves.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="121722" first="Ehlaina" last="Hartman"], WF, 6’0", Spearville, Wheat State Elite, 2020</strong> -- Averages 20.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.2 steals, 2.5 assists, and 1.3 blocks. Shoots 36% from three (24 made), A Southern Plains-Iroquois League first team selection in 2019.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="125016" first="Bennie" last="Horsch"], WF, 5’8", Sterling, 2022</strong> -- Back-up on a deep team in 2019 that can play multiple positions. Raw talent with continued work will be a multi-position threat.
<strong>Kyla Kind, WF, Bennington, 2021</strong> -- Averages 9.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.3 steals. Shoots 29% from three (25 made).
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="125025" first="Brooke" last="Hammond"], WF, 5’7", Garden Plain, 2022</strong> -- Hammond has a diverse, solid, skill set. She has developed into a three point threat in the past year. Hammond has good speed, which she displayed as the final runner on the 2019 4x100 state champion team.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="123503" first="Kayla" last="Morris"], WF, 5’10", Sterling, SC Dream, 2021</strong> -- A Heart of America League second team selection in 2019. Fast in transition, can go end-to-end off the rebound, aggressive rebounder on both ends. Athletic transition player who posts and rebounds strongly inside.
<strong>Autumn Schreiner, G, 5’8", Wabaunsee, 2020</strong> -- Mid-East League first team. Averaged 9.1 points, 3.1 assists, and 3 steals per game.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="123505" first="Lili" last="Schubert"], SG, 5’8", Trego Community, Northwest Kansas Stars, 2021</strong> -- Selected as KBCA 2A honorable mention all-state, Sports In Kansas 2A all-state tournament team, and Mid-Continent League first team in 2019 while averaging 15.4 points, 7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. Quick 15’ and step-back jumpers. 25’ three point range. Shot 78 FT% on 134 attempts. Good use of head and shoulder fake. Is quick to the basket and able to split defenders on the dribble drive. Ability to finish with athletically around the basket with contact, especially with her right. Fast in transition with the ball.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="124986" first="Maddy" last="Vermetten"], F, 5’9", Valley Heights, Wheat State Elite, 2022</strong> -- Twin Valley League second team in 2019 while averaging 10 points and 7.5 rebounds. Developing perimeter game extends to three point territory. Competes inside. Runs well in transition.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="121775" first="Sam" last="Vermetten"], F, 5’7", Valley Heights, Wheat State Elite, 2020</strong> -- Twin Valley League first team in 2019. Elevates on rebounds and on quick put-backs. Three point range. Transitions well. Averaged 11 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="125002" first="Madison" last="Walt"], G, 5’9", Trego Community, Western Kansas Elite, 2022</strong> -- May 1 twitter from coach - "Madison has a great feel (high IQ) for the game. She can score at all 3 levels and is a fierce competitor. Maddy displays great poise and patience on the floor and has a nose for the ball."
<strong>Madysen Zoglman, W, 5’8", Garden Plain, 2021</strong> -- Averages 9.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1 steal. Shoots 29% from three with 16 made. Shoots 76% from the free throw line.
