The Class of 2021 is big on elite talent. Girls like Ioyanna Council, Keonna Bryant, Maaika Dones, Daija Robinson, Zaniya Marsh are added with top-heavy class. While the Class of 2021 might have a lot of talent hidden, it is definitely much deeper class in which many colleges of all levels throughout the Southeast will find their key pieces to make them successful in the mid to late 2020s. Below is a look at five individuals who performed at a high level throughout their Junior seasons, yet who are somewhat unknown on a statewide level to this point. There were many more we could have chosen from, so it was tough to settle on just these five.
Ioyanna Council 5-4 PG, Trinity Christian School Council is a guard who likes to make plays for her teammate by setting them up on the break with spectacular passes, able to score while in traffic, plays as a great facilator. She can also score in many ways. She has great speed, quickness, and solid all-around defense. She’s also a nice perimeter shooter who can make open rhythm jumpers consistently. This season for Ioyanna Council, she was the nuclue that kept it all together foe the Crusaders, help them to win the regular season, and tournament confenence championship.
Keonna Bryant, 5”10 F EE Smith H.S.
Bryant is a strong defender that is tenacious and able to guard 1-4 positions. Bryant can pick up just about any opponent on the floor and guard them 94 feet. She is a nice athlete that is a magnet for the ball, she pursues lose balls by doing the dirty work, and she’s not afraid to sacrifice her body for the team by diving on the floor for the ball. She is a deep threat from the three point arc, able to get to the rim with her strong physical body. The Patroit All conference player should be high on a lot of colleges radar as a 2021 prospect.
Maaika Dones, 5″4 G, Overhills H.S.
Dones is a quick guard who plays solid defense. and the potential to become a Division-2 guard. She has able to faciltate the ball to her team with a very high IQ for the game., she’s a really nice athlete that can defend at a high level, plus she is versatile skillfully. She can handle the ball and run offense at times. She will be a good prospect at the D2 JUCO level.
Daija Robinson, 5”6 G, Douglas Byrd H.S. Robinson a combo guard who likes to score. Robinson can definitely light it up from the outside. She can get to rim when need be. Her creative style of playing makes her dangerous with the ball. she is a strong D2,D3, NAIA JUCO college prospect.
Zaniya Marsh, 5-10 SF, Jack Britt H.S.
Mariah, a strong, athletic forward who is scrappy and does all the little things on the team. She can push the ball up the floor when need be. Has a little nice mid range shot from the field, and she has physicalness about her that stands out. All I can say about her is she is a coaches pleasure to have on the team. Willing to sacrifice to do the unpopular things to get the job done. She should earned many college offers when the time comes.
