Although playing amongst more experienced sophomores and juniors can be a daunting idea, there were players that more than held their own amongst their peers. Some were lights out shooters such as Mountainside’s Carly Stone whereas others were floor generals like Lakeridge’s Reece Ericson. Others feel into both categories, such as Silverton’s Reece Ericson. La Salle’s Mia Skoro on the other hand, is a defensively focused player for the Falcons that invigorates her team through her tenacity. Here are some players of the 2022 class that were stockrisers due to their efforts throughout the season.
Carly Stone 2022 5’7″ SG Mountainside HS – Carly is a sensational shooter for the Mavericks, as her spots are in the corners as her teammates like to find her there in their offensive scheme. Upon catching the ball, she finds her balance very well and releases the ball with a high projection and shoots it at a high clip. Is a great rebounder for her position, as she has good hands that are able and willing to secure the ball in traffic. Makes the right plays for her teammates and looks for them in their offense and has good defense awareness which results in steals.
Mia Skoro 2022 5’8″ SG La Salle HS – great defender for La Salle, as her active hands and determination results in steals and extra possessions for her team, which end up in easy fast break points. Defensive engine for the Falcons, where she will get on the defender and go the extra effort, often ending up on the floor. Turns an extra gear in transition, where she shifts gears going down the court and either finishes it herself or finds a teammate.
2022 Lilly Horner 2022 5’2″ PG Silverton HS – Lilly is a sharpshooter for Silverton that made her presence known in the Foxes’ opening round win in the 5A State Tournament as she scorched Ridgeview off the bench. She is a confident shooter that will let it go within an instant. She is also part of the Silverton offensive scheme that stresses ball movement, so she is a natural facilitator and great supportive player when she is on the floor.
2022 Reece Ericson 2022 5’5″ PG Lakeridge HS – very versatile point guard for Lakeridge that does a lot of great things on offensive. High IQ that can dribble penetrate, give and go, and play the two man game with the post. Crafty in the lane and has a great touch around fifteen feet and can finish inside as well. Good perimeter shooter whose game extends to the three-point line. Plays with a nice pace and can kick it into the extra gear. Defensively active and gets into the passing lanes to ignite the transition offense.
