Individually, a lot of prospects out of this county made their mark during the 2019-20 girls basketball season. Here are the Prep Girls Hoops NC all-area selections for Beaufort County.
Ka’Nyah O’Neal (Southside guard, 2023)
O’Neal was the top scorer in Beaufort County this past season averaging 20 points per game as a freshman. She dominates on the boards averaging 10 per game and made her mark defensively getting 5.1 steals per contest as well. O’Neal is an excellent three point shooter and will be one of the top players in Eastern North Carolina over the next few years. She helped the Seahawks reach the second round of the 1-A state playoffs.
Jasmine Blango (Southside guard, 2022)
Blango was Southside’s second leading scorer at 13 points per game and second in steals at three per game. The Seahawks sophomore guard shot the ball extremely well, scores and passes well in transition, and plays with a ton of energy. With Blango’s play, Southside won 18 games in 2019-20 and O’Neal and herself back, look for that number to increase next season.
Arissa Kim (Washington guard, 2021)
Kim led Washington in scoring this past season and did most of her scoring with mid-range and three point shots. She defended and rebounded well for the Pam Pack and had some big games throughout the season. Washington struggled to a 7-16 campaign, but played well in the second half of the year. With Kim among many other contributors coming back, the Pam Pack are poised to bounce back.
Shyanne Brokenborough (Unity Christian forward, 2022)
Brokenborough was a force in the paint for a really good Unity Christian team this season. She’s a really good passer out of the post and was dominant on the offensive and defensive glass. The Warriors had an undefeated regular season and finished with a 21-1 record. Brokenborough is part of a team that’ll return every player from this years roster, so expect Unity Christian to continue their winning ways.
Lauren Kellie Ricks (Pungo Christian forward, 2021)
Ricks was a double double machine for Pungo Christian this past season. The Raiders junior forward averaged 13 points and 10 rebounds per game for a team that won 19 games. After leading Pungo to their first conference title in 20 years as a sophomore, she improved in a lot of areas like ball handling and shooting. With Ricks back in the starting lineup, the Raiders will likely continue to win basketball games next year.
