Many players contributed to their teams success throughout the year and it definitely showed on the recruiting scene. Here are some of the top standout players from Carteret County, North Carolina during the 2019-20 season.
Kaitlyn Johnson (East Carteret guard, 2021)
Johnson led the East Carteret Mariners in scoring during the 2019-20 season and had a lot of big offensive numbers. She also led her team in steals at just under three per game and as one of many returning players, Johnson hopes to get East Carteret back to winning ways. The Mariners will return all but two players from this past seasons roster.
Mackenzie Reed (West Carteret guard, 2020)
Reed was one of the more consistent players in Eastern North Carolina playing for the West Carteret Patriots. She rebounds well at her position, passes extremely well, and has a great eye for scoring the basketball. Reed averaged 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals per game this past season and she’ll be taking her talents to Chicago State this winter.
Kelly Hagerty (Croatan forward, 2020)
Hagerty was one of the top post players in the 252 area code and helped lead Croatan to a 25-3 overall record, 14-0 conference record, and a third round playoff appearance. She averaged 15 points per game on just under 50% shooting and added 10 rebounds per contest to go along with that. Hagerty also defended extremely well contributing over one steal and one block per game. As of now, the 6’1″ forward remains unsigned, but would be a great late addition for any college program that recruits her.
