Pamlico County High School has continued to win in the 1-A division and had another big season. Here are some standouts from both Pamlico and Jones County girls basketball during the 2019-20 season.
Mirachell Maher (Pamlico County forward, 2021)
Maher is one of the top players in Eastern North Carolina and she had another stellar season for Pamlico County. The junior forward averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds per game for a Hurricanes team that went 26-2 this year. She finished with 15 double-doubles and had three games with 30 or more points including a 43 point performance against New Bern last December. Maher does most of her damage in the paint, but she has also extended her range out to three point land. She’ll be part of a great team return for the Hurricanes next year and they’ll be right back in the state title hunt.
Di-Annah Jones (Pamlico County forward, 2021)
Jones was another big part of Pamlico County’s continued dominance in Coastal Plains 1-A conference play during the 2019-20 season. The junior forward played with a lot of energy creating extra possessions with her defense and taking advantage of the offensive glass. She finishes well around the rim and had a lot of big games this season for the Hurricanes.
Ashton Ramsey (Pamlico County guard, 2021)
Ramsey had a lot of big performances in conference play for the Hurricanes. The junior guard is Pamlico County’s sharpshooter leading the team in three point makes with 33. She was also second on the team in steals and is part of why the Hurricanes are one of the better defensive teams in the state.
Tanayja Green (Jones Senior guard, 2020)
Although Jones Senior struggled as a team, one of their bright spots during the 2019-20 season was senior guard Tanayja Green. She led the Trojans in scoring, assists, and steals for the second straight season. The Jones Senior program will definitely miss her shot creation and passing ability next season as they look to improve over the offseason.
