Multiple teams had winning seasons, won conference championships, and made deep runs into the state playoffs. One team reached the regional championship round thanks to one of the top prospects in the entire southeast. Here are some standouts in the class of 2020 from Onslow County.
Kennedy Todd-Williams Kennedy Todd-Williams 5'10" | CG Jacksonville | 2020 State NC (Jacksonville guard/forward)
We’re running out of superlatives to describe just how great Kennedy Todd-Williams Kennedy Todd-Williams 5'10" | CG Jacksonville | 2020 State NC was in her return from a knee injury she suffered during her junior year. The UNC signee is the number one prospect in the Prep Girls Hoops NC 2020 rankings and certainly lived up to the billing. Whether it was scoring, rebounding, passing, or protecting the rim, she made a huge difference for a Cardinals team that reached the 3-A East regional championship this past season.
Kelly Luck (Jacksonville guard)
Luck finished the 2019-20 season as Jacksonville’s leading scorer. The Cardinals guard is heading to UNC Pembroke this winter where she’ll likely have an instant impact. She is a light’s out three point shooter and can also attack the basket well. In addition, Luck made a huge impact on the defensive end making her an absolute steal for the Braves.
Mia Tucker (Jacksonville guard)
Tucker was the heart and soul of the Jacksonville basketball team this past season and set the tone for her team on defense. She led the team in steals and provided a lot of offense as well by getting to the rim at ease. Tucker is part of a great 2020 class that the Cardinals will surely miss next season.
Amazriah Rawls (White Oak guard)
Rawls did it all for White Oak during the 2019-20 season leading her team to an 18-win season. The Vikings guard had double figure scoring in 18 games and led the team in every major statistical category (15 points, nine rebounds, six assists, six steals, and four blocks per game. Rawls will be attending Georgia Southwestern and should make a huge splash at the Division Two level.
Ja’Niyah Simmons (Northside guard)
Despite Northside’s struggles during this past season, Simmons had a big year for the Monarchs scoring the ball at 13.5 points per game. She also added over four steals per game to go along with 2.6 assists per contest.
Sikia Kornegay (Richlands guard)
Kornegay got back onto the court in late January, but made a quick impact on the success Richlands had this past season. She was just short of averaging a double-double in the 12 games she played for the Wildcats. Her team went 8-4 in those games and Richlands would go onto qualify for the 2-A state playoffs.
Payton Jeffers (Dixon forward)
Jeffers had a dominant season for Dixon from her scoring outputs to her production on the glass. She led the Bulldogs in both categories (13.2 points and 15.6 rebounds per game) and added to that with great defensive numbers as well. The three-sport standout will be playing softball at Salem State, but will definitely be missed on the basketball court.
