Top 5 Juniors: Milwaukee
Below is a list of 5 players who compete in Milwaukee and are the top Juniors in their city. They have shown a lot of success so far in their careers and have high ceilings for their final summer and senior seasons.
[player_tooltip player_id="155768" first="Aaleyah" last="Jones"] | 5’5 PG | Milwaukee Riverside
Jones led her team to a successful season during her junior campaign. A talented guard who is super scrappy with the ball- Jones has a pure scorers mentality. Leading her team to second in the conference, Jones averaged 15.8 points per game. She scores from anywhere on the court and is range effective beyond on the arc. Jones is one of the few players I’ve seen successful score with a mid range floater on multiple occasions. She has a quick hesitation dribble that finds her flying by defenders. She’s also developed her perimeter shot and has a smooth step back in her game. She can create her own shot on the three and will knock it down with a defender in her face. This season over 30 three point baskets. In a game against Milwaukee School of Languages, the Riverside standout dropped a season-high 30 points in the win. Jones is a player to keep an eye on as her recruiting stock begins to rise.
Breyia Horton | 5’7 G | Milwaukee Washington
Horton really stepped out of her role this season to become a major impact player for Milwaukee Washington. The talented guard finished third in scoring for her team this season while being the team’s go-to defender and floor facilitator. Horton averaged 8.2 points per game this season and consistently put up good numbers all season long. In a one point game against Milwaukee School of Languages, Horton finished with a season-high 27 points for her team. She’s an athletic guard who is patient and poise. She plays with a lot of discipline and understands her role on the floor. This season she gained a lot of confidence, shooting mid range shots often and handling the ball on the perimeter. Horton works well with her teammates and has a good year for the open post players. She herself oftentimes settled in the post and could easily be a forward for her team. With [player_tooltip player_id="132468" first="Tanya" last="McNeal"] graduating, Horton may just step into that role next season. She’s a rebounding specialist and uses her body and quick feet to grab boards. The standout junior finished the season averaging 7.1 rebounds per game.
[player_tooltip player_id="155775" first="Shiauna" last="Nixon- Boyd"] | 5’8 CG | Milwaukee Riverside
Nixon- Boyd has a fun flow to her game. She’s an exciting player to watch as she is super versatile on offense. She’s light on her feet and quick to attack the rim at any moment. An athletic guard who plays a lot of minutes due to her ability to remain efficient. She impacts the game by her communication on the court and vision moving without the ball. She does a great job getting the easy shot off by simply just being in the right place. She will also knock down the shot beyond the arc if left open to long. The Riverside guard averaged 10 points per game this season. A rebounding specialist as well, Nixon- Boyd doesn’t shy away from contact whatsoever. She finished second in rebounding by averaging 4 rebounds per game. An efficient defender on ball as well, she grabbed 17 steals during her junior season.
Kalyah Watson | Milwaukee School of Languages
Watson is a huge asset to her Milwaukee School of Languages squad. She’s a player that just does all the little things right each night but will take over a game if she has to. She runs the show for MAS and will have an even larger role as she begins her junior season. She’s a guard with a great feel for the game and impressive ball handles. She scores the ball well in transition and see’s a lot of points off her ability to deflect passes or grab steals. She grabbed 64 steals during her junior year. This season Watson averaged 11.3 points per game. She finished third in scoring behind two of the city’s top prospects. She was consistent in her numbers all season long but did have a couple breakout performances. In a win over Milwaukee Vincent, Watson scored 21 points for her team. Watson has range to her shot as well and is comfortable stepping up and knocking it down. While she can effectively score the basketball, Watson does a great job finding her teammates open. The Milwaukee School of Languages standout averaged 3.3 assists per game.
Marchelle Bowden | 5’10 F | Milwaukee Hamilton
A gifted scorer who has had crazy impressive performances this season. She gets to the rack with ease and has a bag full of crafty moves. At 5’10 Bowden is so hard to guard when she’s attacking the rim. She has quick footwork and ability to knock down the mid range jumpers. She also added a perimeter shot to her bag this season. The Milwaukee Hamilton junior finished with 16 made three point baskets. I’d look for her to become more confident and knock down even more next season. A primarily inside scorer, Bowden knows how to get the job done on the block. She has a quick up and under move and a reverse pivot that finds her getting multiple points off. This season she averaged 18.6 points per game for her team. In a game against MAS, Bowden scored a season-high 35 points for her team. In another game against Milwaukee King, Bowden dropped 32 points. Bowden was selected First Team All Conference this season.
