Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are four 2023’s who need to be on your radar.
Payton Bush – Mediapolis
Mediapolis had a memorable season, winning 21 games before coming up short against Van Buren County. They also finished unbeaten in the SEISC-North, winning the league title.
Now, after the graduation of five key seniors, the success of the program will rest with those coming back.
Included in that bunch is Class of 2023 player Payton Bush, who saw action in all 23 games a year ago.
Bush scored 76 total points, knocking down 16 three-pointers. She also produced 35 steals, 28 rebounds and 23 assists.
Kinsey Hissem – Cardinal
Cardinal struggled through a tough year this past winter, but the Comets are hoping for better results in 2020-21 behind a host of returning players.
Kinsey Hissem earned valuable playing time as a freshman, scoring 46 points with 41 rebounds and five steals.
With five seniors departing, more will be needed out of Hissem.
Victoria Howell – Columbus
Victoria Howell got her first taste of the varsity level of prep basketball this past year, and the freshman will use that to grow in over the coming seasons.
Howell started one game and saw action in 21 total for the Wildcats, scoring 42 points with 35 rebounds, 13 steals and seven blocked shots.
Ava Ferrell – Cardinal
Another piece for the building of the Cardinal program is freshman Ava Ferrell.
Ferrell started five games as a newcomer and played in 20, recording 30 rebounds with 12 steals.
