A few teams had solid runs into the state playoffs while others are looking to improve their programs. With many of these teams replacing key senior graduates, who will step up their game going into this year? Here is part one of the top returning forwards to lookout for in northeastern North Carolina during the 2020-21 season.
Daysha Holloman (Hertford County forward, 2021)
Daysha Holloman is another prospect at Hertford County that should see an increase in production this upcoming season. As a junior, she averaged six points, nine rebounds, and two steals per contest for a really good Bears team. She’s someone that can create extra possessions from getting offensive rebounds and is solid defensively as well. With her among other key players returning to the program this year, Hertford County should be a force in the 2-A East division in 2021.
Elizabeth Clagett (First Flight forward, 2022)
Elizabeth Clagett is another solid post player in the northeastern part of the state and had a really good sophomore season at First Flight. She produced 10 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and two blocks per game for a Nighthawks team looking to reach the postseason this year. The rising junior had a lot of big scoring outputs throughout this past season and First Flight will need a lot of big games from her if they want to improve on their 11-11 record.
Jada Modlin (Perquimans forward, 2022)
Jada Modlin is another one of the many standout 2022 prospects in this area and should be in for a really good junior season at Perquimans. She put up 13 points, seven rebounds, and three steals per game as a sophomore and is poised for better production this season. Her play helped lead the Pirates to an 18 win season and she was named to the all-conference and all-district teams as well.
Kennedy Lighty (Camden County forward, 2022)
Kennedy Lighty had a pretty solid sophomore season for the Camden County Bruins. She’s an efficient scorer in the paint and rebounds extremely well on both ends. As a sophomore, she averaged eight points and five boards per game for a Bruins squad that’s looking to improve in 2021. With their top two scorers graduating, look for Lighty to be the primary scoring option for Camden County.
