Multiple teams were able to crack the double digit win total including one team that rode their momentum all the way to a regional and state championship. With all of that being said, who are some of the top returning forwards in this area? Here is part one of the top returning forwards to lookout for in the Roanoke Valley this year.
Taniyah Washington (Weldon forward, 2021)
Rising senior forward Taniyah Washington had a really good 2019-20 season for a 27-1 Weldon squad and played her best basketball when it mattered most. She averaged 10 points, six rebounds, and one steal per game this season and is poised for a big 2021. Her play along with the performance of standout seniors Skylah Travis and Tecara Ashe helped the Chargers win the 1-A East regional and co-state championship.
Emerson Poole (Halifax Academy forward, 2021)
Another rising senior that had an excellent year was Emerson Poole who averaged a double double during this past season. As a junior, she put up 19 points, 13 rebounds, three steals, and four blocks per contest helping the Vikings win 17 games. She scored nearly 500 points and shot 50% from the field and a solid 75% from the free throw line. Poole dominates on the glass and creates a lot of second chance opportunities for her team. She’s sure to have a really good senior year at Halifax Academy.
Emalee Jones (Northeast Academy forward, 2022)
Northeast Academy forward Emalee Jones has a chance to better her solid numbers from this past season as a junior. She produced 13 points and seven rebounds per contest for the Eagles leading them to a 14-5 record. With Jones among many key contributors returning for Northeast Academy, expect the Eagles to be right back in the hunt for a conference championship in 2021.
