Four of the six teams were able to reach the state/regional playoffs in their respective classifications. With a lot teams replacing key senior graduates, who will step up their game going into this year? Here is part two of the top returning players to lookout for in Lenoir County during the 2020-21 season.
Ka’nyah O’Neal (Southside guard, 2023)
O’Neal is the top returning scorer in Beaufort County after having a stellar freshman season for the Southside Seahawks. She averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, five steals, and two blocks per contest in her first high school basketball season. Thanks to her incredible play, the Seahawks were able to make the 1-A state playoffs and should be in line for a return trip next season.
Jasmine Blango (Southside guard, 2022)
Alongside O’Neal in the Southside backcourt, Blango also had a really good 2019-20 season for the Seahawks. The rising junior guard put up 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals per game last year and played a huge role on both ends of the floor. Southside was able to win 18 games this past season and with their backcourt intact for next season, they’ll be contenders in the Coastal Plains 1-A conference.
Arissa Kim (Washington guard, 2021)
Kim had a nice junior season for the Washington Pam Pack leading the team in scoring and steals per game. She is a really good three point shooter and will be counted on heavily as a senior this year after her team failed to reach the 2-A playoffs. Expect the Pam Pack to have a bounce back 2020-21 season with their top four scorers all returning to the lineup.
