Four of the six teams were able to reach the state/regional playoffs in their respective classifications. With a lot teams replacing key senior graduates, who will step up their game going into this year? Here is part two of the top returning players to lookout for in Lenoir County during the 2020-21 season.
Katie Godley (Northside forward, 2021)
Godley is a forward that rebounds really well and is excellent at finishing around the basket. She’ll be one of Northside’s top returning scorers from a team that finished the season with an 8-14 record. The rising senior forward should be counted on even more during the 2020-21 season. In a challenging Coastal Plains 1-A conference that features some great program, Godley the Panthers are looking to get back to their consistent winning ways.
Diamond Spencer (Northside guard, 2022)
Returning along with Godley is one of the fastest guards in the conference in Diamond Spencer. She’s a blur with the basketball in her hands and with an increased role, she’ll only continue to improve. The Panthers are going to need a big season from their rising junior guard this year if they want to increase their win total. Spencer is very capable of becoming a better player over the next few months, so her performance should help Northside win games.
Marchina Warren (Washington guard, 2021)
Warren had to step into the starting point guard role for Washington this past season after the Pam Pack lost a really good group of 2019 guards to graduation. As the season went into the late stages, the rising senior started to play her best basketball. She’ll be counted on once again and if she plays well, Washington will have a shot to make the 2-A state playoffs.
Reagan Ruther (Washington forward, 2021)
Although it didn’t show on the box score, Reagan Ruther is one of the better post players in Beaufort County. The rising senior forward is a force on the offensive glass and is a really good ball handler at her position. Washington finished this past season with seven wins, but with Ruther and Warren back among others, they should be able to improve in a tough Eastern Carolina 2-A conference.
