Four of the six teams were able to reach the state/regional playoffs in their respective classifications. With a lot teams replacing key senior graduates, who will step up their game going into this year? Here is part two of the top returning players to lookout for in Lenoir County during the 2020-21 season.
Carly James (Terra Ceia guard, 2022)
James is one of the top returning scorers in Beaufort County and had a really good season for Terra Ceia Christian. She averaged 19 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one block per game as a sophomore for a team that won 10 games. The rising junior guard is a great rebounder at her size, makes a lot of plays off the dribble, and defends with a lot of energy. She’ll be a big part of the Knights program during the 2020-21 season and you can expect a big leap from her.
Lauren Kellie Ricks (Pungo Christian guard/forward, 2021)
Ricks is one of the county leaders in rebounds per game an averaged a double double for Pungo Christian last season. She added a lot to her game during her junior year by becoming a better passer and outside shooter. Her stellar play helped the Raiders win 19 games during the 2019-20 season and she’ll be a part of a great returning cast. Expect Ricks and Pungo Christian to be back in conference championship contention once again.
Reagan Stoop (Pungo Christian forward, 2023)
Stoop is a 2023 prospect that has the potential to be really good over the next few years in Beaufort County. She led Pungo Christian in blocked shots at nearly two per game and was second in rebounding at 7.5 per game. In Stoop, the Raiders have a post player that can go to work on both blocks and dominate on the glass. She’s only going to keep improving her game next season for an excellent program.
Emma Williams (Pungo Christian guard, 2021)
Returning alongside Lauren Kellie Ricks is rising senior guard Emma Williams who also had an excellent junior season. She was second on the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game and led the Raiders in steals at four per contest. Williams doesn’t make mistakes when she orchestrates her teams offense and is very important to her teams success.
Shyanne Brokenborough (Unity Christian forward, 2022)
Brokenborough is another one of the many good post players in Beaufort County and had a great year for Unity Christian. She dominated on the boards for the Warriors, who finished with the best record in the area at 21-1. They return a good portion of this seasons roster and it’ll certainly help that their top post presence will be one of them.
