That winning tradition continued during the 2019-20 season and both teams are looking to sustain their success this upcoming season. Each program returns key contributors that are sure to make an even bigger impact this year. Here are some of the top returning players to lookout for in Bladen County during the 2020-21 season.
Mya McDonald (East Bladen guard, 2022)
McDonald is one of two returning players for East Bladen that scored in double figures during the 2019-20 season. The rising junior guard put up 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and five steals per game as a sophomore. On an Eagles team that consistently wins over 20 games every season, they need players like McDonald to continue the success of the program. With her return, East Bladen is set for another deep playoff run in the 2-A East division.
Alexus Mitchell (East Bladen guard, 2022)
Returning alongside McDonald at West Bladen next season is Mitchell, another 2022 guard prospect that averaged double figures last year. She produced 10 points, four rebounds, and three steals per game as a sophomore and will also see an increase in production this upcoming season. The Eagles won 22 games this past season and reached the second round of the state playoffs. Mitchell coming back will help East Bladen significantly and it should increase their win total in 2020-21.
Haley George (West Bladen, 2022)
George had a lot of nice scoring outputs for West Bladen throughout the season as her team finished with a 16-9 record. The Knights will need more production out of her and other key returning pieces since the team is losing a great group of seniors. West Bladen’s class of 2020 won 31 games over their final two seasons, so George will have to be ready to take on a bigger role.
