Now, we look ahead to what’s in store for the upcoming North Carolina high school basketball season. Here are some of the top returning players to lookout for in Brunswick County during the 2020-21 season.
Daliyah Stanley (West Brunswick forward, 2021)
Stanley is one of the top returning players for West Brunswick coming into the 2020-21 season. The rising senior forward averaged eight points per contest for the Trojans and her role will likely increase this coming year. West Brunswick is coming off of a seven win season and is looking to improve their program in one of the tougher conferences in Eastern North Carolina: the Mideastern 3-A/4-A.
Nija Bryant (South Brunswick forward, 2021)
Bryant averaged a double double, 10 points and 12 rebounds per game, for South Brunswick this past season. In addition, she was an excellent shot blocker putting up nearly four per contest and she’ll have to increase her production if the Cougars want to contend. South Brunswick won five games during the 2019-20 season, but having Bryant back gives them a good chance to increase that number.
Laney Scoggins (North Brunswick guard/forward, 2023)
Scoggins had an excellent season for North Brunswick averaging 11 points, six rebounds, and two steals per game. Because of her stellar play, the Scorpions finished with more wins than any other team in the county with 11. With most of their team coming back next season including a top returning scorer who averaged double digits as a freshman, they should be able to win a few more games.
