One team had another successful campaign thanks to one of the top 2022 prospects in the are and the other is looking to improve their program. With these teams replacing key senior graduates, who will step up their game going into this year? Here are the top returning players to lookout for in Martin County during the 2020-21 season.
Keary Jones (Riverside guard, 2022)
Jones is the top returning player in Martin County and is poised for a huge junior season for the Riverside Knights. As a sophomore, she put up 16 points, three rebounds, and five steals per game last year for a team that won 20 games. She’s a solid three point shooter, reads the passing lanes and attacks the basket very well. Her game will only continue to grow at an excellent girls basketball program in Williamston.
Jermaria Brown (Riverside guard, 2022)
Returning alongside Keary Jones at Riverside is fellow rising junior guard Jermaria Brown. She averaged five points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals per game during the 2019-20 season. Next year, she’ll likely be counted on a secondary scoring option with the graduation of standout senior Johnay Goddard.
Trevondra Brown (South Creek forward, 2021)
Trevondra Brown put up excellent rebounding and shot blocking numbers last season for the South Creek Cougars. The rising senior only averaged three points per game, but added 10 rebounds, three steals, and nine blocks per game. If her scoring output can increase during the 2020-21 season, the Cougars should be able to improve on their 3-19 record from last year.
