Here is part two the top returning players to lookout for in New Hanover County during the 2020-21 season.
Destiny Newkirk (New Hanover forward, 2021)
Newkirk had a very good junior season for New Hanover as a secondary scoring option. She’s an excellent rebounder and created a lot of second chance points for her team throughout the 2019-20 campaign. The rising senior forward is part of a solid group of players returning for the Wildcats including standout guard Andrehya Shuford Andrehya Shuford 5'5" | CG New Hanover | 2022 State NC .
Regan Stewart (Laney guard, 2021)
Stewart helped Laney win 22 games this past season as part of a balanced offensive attack. She averaged eight points and three rebounds per game and should be a part of a solid group of players returning for the Buccaneers. The Mideastern 3-A/4-A conference has a lot of talent and Stewart is one of the many examples of that.
Taylor Chism (Laney forward, 2022)
Like Stewart, Chism is another key piece to the success Laney saw last year and is sure to be part of that again during the 2020-21 season. The rising junior forward put up eight points, five rebounds, and four steals per contest for the Buccaneers. With her back in the fold, expect Laney to be back in the 4-A state playoffs and be in the conversation near the top of their conference.
Katie Rudow (Cape Fear Academy guard, 2022)
Rudow led Cape Fear Academy in rebounding at nine per game and was third in scoring at eight points per game. She’s a big part of why the Hurricanes reached the NCISAA 3-A state final four and won 20 games this past year. The rising sophomore guard will see an increased role as the Hurricanes lose two 20 point per game scorers, Chloe Kernan and Kaia Simpson, to graduation.
