A lot of key contributors are slated to come back which could mean a significant improvement among the teams in this county. Here are of the top returning players to lookout for in Pender County during the 2020-21 season.
Anisa Lewis (Heide Trask guard, 2021)
Lewis is the top returning scorer in Pender County averaging 21 points per game for Trask this past season. She added nine rebounds and four steals per contest as well for a Titans team that went 15-8 last year. Lewis scored at least 10 points in all but one game last year and will be expected to do so once again as a senior.
Leanna Pfeiffer (Heide Trask forward, 2021)
Pfeiffer will be counted on for rebounding and an extra scoring punch next season. She had eight games with at least 10 rebounds and six with double figure scoring. The Trask rising senior forward averaged seven points and eight rebounds per contest, so expect those numbers to increase for the Titans.
Tyanna Holmes (Pender guard, 2021)
Despite Pender struggling to a 7-14 record this past season, Holmes was a consistent scoring threat throughout the year. She put up 18 points per contest and will see an increased role going into next season. Most of the Patriots roster will return for the 2020-21 campaign, so expect Holmes and Pender to improve.
Sydney Hartgrove (Topsail guard, 2021)
Hartgrove is the only returning player in Pender County that averaged a double double during the 2019-20 season. The rising junior guard put up 14 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and four steals per game. After losing a significant amount of wins due to fielding an ineligible player, the Topsail Pirates are looking for a bounce back. With Hartgrove back for her senior year, they should have no problem winning a ton of basketball games this upcoming season.
