Between Richmond, Hoke, and Scotland County, each program returns key contributors that are sure to make an big impact this upcoming year. Here are the top returning players to lookout for in Richmond, Hoke, and Scotland County during the 2020-21 season.
Jayla McDougald (Richmond County guard, 2021)
McDougald put up really good scoring numbers for Richmond last year and her production should increase next season. The rising senior guard averaged just over 10 points per game during the 2019-20 season for a Raiders team that went 16-9. She made an impact on the team by being aggressive going to the basket and playing with a lot of energy.
Jakerra Covington (Richmond County forward, 2021)
Also returning to the Richmond County lineup is rising senior forward Jakerra Covington. She put up nine points per contest for the Raiders and like McDougald, she should see an increased role next season. Despite a really good record, Richmond County was unable to make the playoffs out of a difficult Sandhills 4-A conference. With both McDougald and Covington coming back, they should be in a good position for this upcoming year.
Simone Benton (Hoke County forward, 2021)
While Hoke County struggled to four wins last season, Simone Benton was one of their bright spots throughout the year. As a junior, she was very productive averaging eight points, six rebounds, two steals, and four blocks per game. She’ll be counted on heavily next year as she looks to lead the Bucks to a more successful 2020-21 campaign.
Kadence Sheppard (Scotland forward, 2022)
Sheppard had a solid season for Scotland putting up nine points and seven rebounds per contest. The Fighting Scots were only able to win six games, but the rising senior forward made a lot of big plays for her team throughout the season. Scotland will need a big jump in production from her if they want to improve their overall record and conference record next season.
