In Robeson County, four programs are looking to continue building towards sustained success. Each program returns key contributors that are sure to make an big impact this upcoming year. Here is part one of the top returning players to lookout for in Robeson County during the 2020-21 season.
Paris Bethea (Fairmont guard, 2023)
Bethea had a really good freshman campaign for Fairmont this past season. The Golden Tornadoes rising sophomore guard put up nine points, three rebounds, four assists, and four steals per contest. She makes plays on both ends of the floor and shot 40% from three point range this past season. Fairmont will need another big season from her if they want to improve on their 9-15 record from a season ago.
Amyrikal Vaught (Fairmont forward, 2023)
Returning with Bethea to Fairmont’s lineup this upcoming season is fellow rising sophomore Amyrikal Vaught. The Golden Tornadoes forward averaged nine points, four rebounds, and three steals per contest. She’s another knockdown shooter who has scored in bunches throughout the 2019-20 season. In a Three Rivers 1-A/2-A conference that features four of the best programs in the 910, having these two guards back should help Fairmont improve next year.
August Smith (Lumberton guard, 2021)
Lumberton guard August Smith is another returning player that can help her team’s record improve. The rising senior averaged nine points per game for a Pirates team that finished 11-14 in a difficult Sandhills 4-A conference. It’ll be a challenge to climb up the conference standings with some of the teams ahead of them, but with Smith back, Lumberton should be able to improve their record.
