In Robeson County, four programs are looking to continue building towards sustained success. Each program returns key contributors that are sure to make an big impact this upcoming year. Here is part three of the top returning players to lookout for in Robeson County during the 2020-21 season.
Kylie Chavis (Purnell Swett guard, 2023)
Purnell Swett reached the postseason for the first time in nearly a decade and part of the reason why was the play of Kylie Chavis. As a freshman, she put up 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and four steals per contest. The Rams had a bunch of underclassmen contribute during the 2019-20 season and that led to a 15-10 overall record. Chavis is part of a great group coming back, so there’s a good chacne Purnell Swett will make a return to the state playoffs.
Jakieya Thompson (St. Pauls guard, 2023)
Jakieya Thompson is another one of the many talented 2023 prospects in not just 910, but the entire state in general. During her freshman season, she averaged 12.4 points per game and shot 52% from the field to go along with five assists and five steals per contest. She’s an excellent ball handler and attacks the basket aggressively whether it’s to score or pass. Thompson will be a huge part of St. Pauls’ program during the 2020-21 season.
TJ Eichelberger (St. Pauls guard, 2021)
Eichelberger has seen an uptick in recruitment over the past several months and her stock is only going to keep rising. The rising senior guard averaged 12.4 points per game, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals per contest for the Bulldogs. Along with Thompson, they’re one of the best guard duos in the 910 and their only loss during the 2019-20 season was in the 2-A state playoffs against an excellent North Lenoir Hawks team. With both of them back next year, the Bulldogs should be right back in the hunt for a state championship.
