In Robeson County, four programs are looking to continue building towards sustained success. Each program returns key contributors that are sure to make an big impact this upcoming year. Here is part two of the top returning players to lookout for in Robeson County during the 2020-21 season.
Natalie Evington (Purnell Swett guard, 2023)
Evington helped Purnell Swett finish third in the Sandhills Athletic 4-A conference which is one of the most difficult in North Carolina. As a freshman, she averaged just over 10 points per game for the Rams who, after winning four games in 2019, finished 15-10 overall and 10-4 in conference play during the 2020 season. Next year, Evington is part of a team that returns their top six scorers from a season ago and that should help Purnell Swett succeed.
Sydney Bell (Red Springs, 2023)
Despite Red Springs struggling to a 4-19 record last season, Sydney Bell was a bright spot for the Red Devils. The rising sophomore guard is the teams top returning scorer and had six games with 10 points or more. Her role is expected to increase next year and Red Springs will need that if they want to have a better campaign in 2020-21.
Taliya Council (St. Pauls forward, 2022)
St. Pauls had the best record of any team in the Three Rivers 1-A/2-A conference and it was because of players like Taliya Council. The rising junior forward is one of many key returning players to a Bulldogs squad that is poised for another deep playoff run. She averaged nine points, five rebounds, and two steals per game as a sophomore and her game will only continue to improve.
Tamyra Council (St. Pauls forward, 2022)
Tamyra Council is another underclassmen prospect that’ll see an increased role next season for St. Pauls. The Bulldogs have a lot of depth especially in the post and the rising sophomore forward made a lot of crucial plays throughout the season. With both of the Council twins returning among others, St. Pauls will likely continue to build on their success from the 2019-20 school year.
