Here is part one of the top returning players to lookout for in Sampson County during the 2020-21 season.
Kris’shyia McKoy (Midway guard, 2022)
McKoy was one of the more consistent players in a very tough East Central 2-A conference this past season. The rising junior put up 11.5 points and 3.6 steals per game while leading Midway to a 17-8 record. She’s a really good ball handler and that helps her get to the basket with ease. With McKoy back in the fold, the Raiders should be in contention for a conference title this upcoming season.
Gwendlyn King (Lakewood forward, 2023)
King had an instant impact as a freshman at Lakewood during the 2019-20 campaign. She averaged 14 points and 14.5 rebounds per contest and had a double double in 16 of her teams 22 games. Her stellar played helped the Leopards win 10 games overall including eight conference wins. King hopes to see the same success as a sophomore as they try to contend for a Carolina 1-A conference title.
Isa Banks (Clinton guard, 2021)
Banks is the top returning scorer in Sampson County after averaging 18 points per game this past season for Clinton. In addition, she put up eight rebounds, four steals, and three blocks per contest as the Dark Horses went 17-7 overall and finished second in the East Central 2-A with a 9-3 conference record. Banks became a career 1,000 point scorer at the end of the season and will surely add to that total next season.
