Here is part two of the top returning players to lookout for in Sampson County during the 2020-21 season.
Rilya Mitchell (Lakewood forward, 2023)
Despite only playing in 12 of her teams 22 games, Mitchell played well when she was on the court for Lakewood. The rising sophomore forward averaged just over 13 points per game for a Leopards team that finished third in the Carolina 1-A conference this past season. A full sophomore season from her could help Lakewood potentially challenge for a conference title against the likes of Princeton and Neuse Charter.
Kamari Walker (Lakewood guard, 2023)
Alongside Rilya Mitchell and Gwendlyn King, Walker had a really good freshman season as part of a really solid trio of 2023 prospects at Lakewood. She put up 10 points per game in 22 games and made a lot of plays scoring and passing the basketball. The three of them have a chance to do great things as Leopards and they’re looking to get to the top of the conference next season.
Khaliah Chestnutt (Clinton guard/forward, 2022)
Chestnutt is part of a good group of players returning to Clinton for the upcoming season and she made a big impact in 2019-20. After averaging close to 14 points, six rebounds, and three steals per contest last year, she has a chance to see her stock rise next season. Her excellent play helped the Dark Horses reach the 2-A state playoffs and they’re going to be in the conversation at the top of the East Central 2-A conference.
NaKeviah Evans (Clinton guard, 2021)
Evans is another key contributor coming back for Clinton this upcoming season. The rising senior guard put up 12.5 points and over three steals per game as a junior. With Chestnutt and Isa Banks both returning as well, the Dark Horses are in a good position heading into the 2020-21 school year. They’re sure to be in the thick of the conference championship discussion as the season gets closer.
