Continue ReadingThe Triad area is blessed with an abundance of quality players at the four position. Though they may not all be that typical back to the basket power player they all have that ability and so much more including the ability to step out and make the 3 point shot. The buzz word for each and every one of them is versatile as they all have skills and abilities to play multiple positions with ease and that is what makes this group special.
Raven Preston Raven Preston 6'0" | CG Quality Education Academy | 2022 State NC -5’10”- Junior- Southeast Guilford High School
Leading this group is the POY in the area if not the state as she just is probably pound for pound or inch for inch the best player in NC and has to rank highly in the US, she is just that good. At her size, she can play every position on the floor with ease and that is offensively and defensively and that in itself is so impressive. As a freshman and again as a sophomore she helped her team to 30 win seasons and two appearances in the state championship game winning one and not getting to play the other. Her game is strong in all areas as she has no glaring weaknesses and the fact she has so much big-game experience just adds to her confidence and her ability to play the game at a high level. She is a sure-fire big-time Division 1 prospect and rightfully so she is special and if you get a chance to watch her play you will understand all the hype, she is the real deal.
Tiir Nyor-5’10”- Senior- Southwest Guilford High School
Another of those tall long athletic versatile players that can excel at many positions on both ends of the court. She has tremendous speed for her size and gets up and down the floor like players smaller than her whether running the lanes and finishing at the rim or getting back on defense to block or change shots. Her speeds also allows her to be a force at the back of presses where she can roam out and get in passing lanes just as easy as staying in the lane and defending the rim she is an asset to any defense or defensive scheme. Expect her to be on the list of colleges looking for players that they can use in a variety of ways whether on offense or defense and she will be more than capable of filling and excelling in this role at the next level.
Tate Chappell-5’10”- Sophomore- Bishop McGuinness High School
One of the young guns in this list and one of the most complete young players in the Triad and she had a huge impact as a freshman last year on a young team that narrowly missed the state championship game. She has all the skills which are remarkable for such a young player but the first impression you get when watching her play is how sound she is fundamentally. She just knows how to play the game and is solid in every area of the game, she can handle the ball, shoots it extremely well from both mid-range and deep, she can post with her back to the basket and score in the lane, she is a very capable and willing passer and can defend multiple positions what else would you expect any player to do especially one with only one year of experience at this level. The only thing you can say she is lacking is experience but with one year under her belt and three more to go expect her to be one of the most sought after players not only in the Triad but the state by the time she finishes as a senior.
Jadyn Newsome- 5’10”- Sophomore- Northern Guilford High School
Another young talented big that was very successful and played a big role on her team as a freshman. At present, she is more comfortable in the post where she has great hands and footwork and scores with ease. Her post game combines her size and quickness to enable her to get in position to score at will and that same combination allows her to be a force defensively in the paint where she either changes or blocks shots and rebounds extremely well. She showed glimpses of expanding her game outside the lane with a developing mid-range shot that looked good when she used it and her passing skills continued to improve throughout the season. Bigger things will be expected from her in her sophomore season and she has the goods to meet and exceed those expectations and rest assured it will be done under the watchful eye of many college coaches.
Alina Abdulina- 5’10”- Sophomore- Forsyth County Day School
A talented big that is a good athlete that exhibits a vast amount of talent and skills. She runs the floor well and finishes at the rim easily but also has the ability to step out and make the mid-range jumper and has the range on her shot to shoot the 3 point shot with impeccable form. Her length and size allow her to be an effective defender whether protecting the lane by blocking and altering shots or being out on the perimeter jumping passing lanes and getting deflections and steals to ignite the break. On the back of a successful freshman season expect her to come back stronger and her skills sharpened and ready to go making her a must-see for college coaches looking to sign quality players and she still has three high school seasons to go to mature both physically and mentally and to gain more game time experience all that bodes well for her basketball future after high school.
