Continue ReadingAlthough it may seem early to take a look at the upcoming freshman class in the State of Oregon, there have been a handful of players that have been making big strides as middle schoolers and look to continue their impact when they hit their respective high schools in the fall. Danaejae Romero-Ah Sam is a crafty guard who has a nice ensemble of dribbling moves to facilitate and score. Mahogany Chandler-Roberts of Benson will be a name to look out for as she passes the eye-test and is an athletic forward with great upside. Kylie Ihrig for Barlow is a guard with great ball handling skills and attacks the basket with authority and rhythm as looks to fit in immediately. Kyleigh Brown of Silverton is a polished scorer who looks to make a splash for the Foxes as a player with excellent play making capabilities.
Danaeja Romero-Ah Sam 2024 5’8” SG Springfield HS – Danaeja is a ball dominant guard with a lot of confidence and flair when the ball is in her hands. She is slippery off the dribble and has quite a bit of wiggle when she gets into the paint and finishes with an exclamation point as well. Has nice consistent shooting motion that is both quick and efficient. Knows how to find teammates in scoring position, whether that is shooters in their corner or those open at the basket. Inspired defender who gets the job done through effort, played for Lady Rose City Rebels in the middle school AAU circuit.
Mahogany Chandler-Roberts 2024 6’2″ SF Benson HS – Fluid, athletic, tall forward who has a lot of dimensions to her game at this point. Based on her physical attributes, she is a great defender with her determination and size, good rebounder who can take it from coast to coast. Excellent footwork in the paint and can score inside with finesse and variety. Solid perimeter game, great dribbling skills to go with her consistent stroke from outside. Will be an instant impact player next season as a well seasoned, confident player who will get the job done from day one.
Kylie Ihrig 2024 5’7″ SG Barow HS – Guard with a smooth handle that displays the ability to create opportunities for herself and others based on her aggressiveness and demeanor. Gets to the cup with a combination with precision and knows how to finish at the rim as well. Shows great court awareness with an understanding of where her teammates are on the court in addition to her precocious scoring talent. Quick player that plays at an excellent pace. Mother played Division 1 basketball at Oregon State.
Kyleigh Brown 2024 5’7” PG Silverton HS – Aggressive scorer who can do it from all three levels, incredibly crafty left hander who displays a lot of variety in the way she gets it done. Great wiggle in the paint and avoids defenders and contact, has a nice mid-range floater and extends her range to the three-point line. Tightly knit handle that she uses to create space and has an elite step back jumper in her arsenal as well. Her will to compete translates on the defensive end, where she makes it her job to put a lid on the opposition.
