Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2023’s who need to be on your radar.
Jena Young Jena Young 5'6" | PG Winterset | 2023 State IA – Winterset
There were no newcomer nerves for Jena Young Jena Young 5'6" | PG Winterset | 2023 State IA , as the Class of 2023 prospect jumped right into the fire for Winterset.
Young led the team in scoring at just under 18 points per game, shooting over 37 percent from the field and 31 percent from deep. She also had a team-high 91 assists, averaging over four per game.
The Huskies won 12 games as Young also produced 98 rebounds and 65 steals, even blocking six shots. She also went to the free throw line 164 times, converting on nearly 63 percent of those shots.
Isbelle Noring – Carlisle
A pair of Class of 2023 players were instrumental in Carlisle winning 11 games last season.
One was Isbelle Noring, as she scored 170 points with 14 made three-pointers. Noring also had 55 rebounds, 43 assists and 34 steals, shooting over 36 percent from the field and nearly 52 percent at the free throw line.
Emma Miner Emma Miner 5'10" | SF Dallas Center-Grimes | 2023 State IA – Dallas Center-Grimes
Nothing like getting your feet wet at the varsity level from the first day on. That was the case for Dallas Center-Grimes Class of 2023 player Emma Miner Emma Miner 5'10" | SF Dallas Center-Grimes | 2023 State IA .
Miner started 23 of 24 games, scoring 140 points on 44 percent shooting from the floor and 63 percent shooting at the free throw line. She also recorded 75 rebounds, 38 assists and 29 steals.
Nicole Storck Nicole Storck 5'9" | PF ADM Adel | 2023 State IA – Adel-ADM
Adel-ADM’s season featured 15 wins and a run to the regional semifinal. They also placed second in the Raccoon River Conference behind only Ballard.
For the Tigers to keep pace with the rest of the state, they will continue to need constant production out of Nicole Storck Nicole Storck 5'9" | PF ADM Adel | 2023 State IA .
Storck, a Class of 2023 prospect, delivered last season, scoring 113 points with 101 rebounds, 19 assists, 17 steals and 13 blocked shots. She shot 45 percent from the field and 54 percent at the free throw line.
Katie Keeney Katie Keeney 5'9" | SF Carlisle | 2023 State IA – Carlisle
Another new piece to build with for Carlisle coaches was Katie Keeney Katie Keeney 5'9" | SF Carlisle | 2023 State IA , as the Class of 2023 prospect recorded 139 points with 70 rebounds, 25 steals and 12 assists.
Keeney shot 40 percent from the field and knocked down eight three-pointers. With three senior starters graduating plenty will be expected out of Noring and Keeney.
