Kentucky is loaded with talent and puts out dozens of college players every year. Here’s a look at the state’s best frontcourts. I have surely missed some. If you think a pair needs to make the list, please reply below or send a DM to our PGH Kentucky twitter!
[player_tooltip player_id="88416" first="Tiarra" last="East"] and [player_tooltip player_id="88443" first="Leslie" last="Baxter"], Butler - Tiarra is essentially a stretch 4 and Baxter is a big wing who can play inside and out. Both are top players in their class and have Butler poised for a potentially deep run next season. Both ladies can score the ball at all three levels but are at their best from 15 feet and in. There aren’t many better duos in the state than Tiarra and Leslie.
[player_tooltip player_id="164389" first="Xaviara" last="Smalley"] and [player_tooltip player_id="36208" first="Ella" last="Thompson"], Bethlehem - Smalley transferred to Bethlehem from E-Town after leaving the Panthers in midseason. Thompson has been one of the best players in the region for 3 years now. Assuming Xaviara is eligible, this frontcourt duo will be hard to out-rebound and Smalley’s size will allow Thompson to play out on the perimeter more. The 5th region will have their hands full trying to stop these two.
[player_tooltip player_id="106144" first="Kennedy" last="Lee"] and [player_tooltip player_id="31878" first="Daisha" last="White"], DuPont Manual - [player_tooltip player_id="106144" first="Kennedy" last="Lee"] has become one of the best prospects in the state in recent months while [player_tooltip player_id="31878" first="Daisha" last="White"] is a big piece to the Manual offense in her own right. Combined, they are one of the most formidable duos in the city and state. Manual is a top contender to get to Rupp Arena next season and Lee is a future Miss Basketball candidate. Don’t sleep on this pair from the Derby city.
[player_tooltip player_id="106133" first="Rachel" last="Presley"] and [player_tooltip player_id="164394" first="Clara" last="Collins"], South Laurel - South Laurel just graduated a ton of offensive firepower from the perimeter and are likely to look completely different on offense next year. Collins is a big stretch 4 who can score inside and out while Presley is a traditional post player who is at her best with her back to the basket. Don’t be surprised to see the Lady Cards back in the mix to win the 13th region on the back of these two talented forwards.
[player_tooltip player_id="164386" first="Brianna" last="Byars"] and [player_tooltip player_id="106139" first="Tyra" last="Flowers"], George Rogers Clark - Perhaps the toughest duo in central Kentucky, Brianna and Tyra are both likely to end up at the D1 level after high school. One reason Coach Graham’s teams have won 4 straight regional titles is because they can dominate in the low post. Good luck out-rebounding these two as they are hard to keep off the glass and both can score with their back to the basket or facing up.
