Multiple teams were able to reach the postseason including a couple of conference title winners. With that being said, who are some forwards that college coaches should keep their eyes on this year? Prep Girls Hoops NC takes a look at more of the top returning forwards to watch out for in Johnston County during the 2020-21 campaign.
Nakiya Blue (North Johnston forward, 2022)
Rising junior forward Nakiya Blue was a key contributor for the North Johnston Panthers this past season. She scored the majority of her points in the paint, but showed that she’s capable of making mid-range jump shots as well. While she wasn’t the primary scoring option, she still found ways to impact the game by being an excellent rebounder and versatile defender. Expect her to have a big season in 2020-21 which could lead to the Panthers making a return trip to the 2-A postseason.
Hailey Tart (Princeton forward, 2023)
Another one of the many 2023 prospects to keep an eye on in Johnston County, rising sophomore Hailey Tart played big minutes for Princeton last year. She’s a consistent scorer around the basket and is also an excellent passer for a post player. With some key post players graduating, Tart will have a shot at a breakout sophomore season for a great Bulldogs program. Expect her to be a full time starter for Princeton and for her production to significantly increase in 2021.
Leonna Nelson (Princeton forward, 2021)
Leonna Nelson is another 2021 forward that will make a big impact during her senior season for the Princeton Bulldogs. She does all of the little things that don’t show up on the stat sheet to help her team be successful. Whether it was making a key basket or steal, Nelson was the glue to the Bulldogs starting lineup last year. This season, she’ll take on an increased role as she looks to help Princeton retain their conference title.
